Gnomes are the small stone garden folk that are often loitering in people's gardens. Typically, they are brightly colored and have white beards, puffy cheeks, and a dunce cap. Gnomes are portrayed in various ways, it was believed that gnomes provided protection, namely for buried riches and minerals. They are still used to keep an eye on crops and livestock, frequently hidden into the eaves of a barn or positioned in a garden.
