When author Mysterious was three years old, her mother was murdered by her husband. That was the end of the happy life she knew as a toddler and the beginning of a nightmare.

Mysterious was adopted by her grandfatherbut not because he loved her or out of the goodness of his heart. Instead, he was motivated by cash and control; the support check that came from the military for her each month was the primary reason he took Mysterious in. After her grandfather married his fourth wife, the couple tossed the girl into a cold, lonely basement to live. Although she cried herself to sleep every night and attempted suicide several times, what the devil meant for evil, God used for His glory. In that basement, Mysterious found the greatest gift and friend of all: Jesus. There she learned about His life, the crucifixion, and resurrection, something that would ultimately become the focus of her life.
