Heart for Children

Working as the organic gardener in a home for abused and neglected children in Germany, Louise thought she had found her calling. Little did she know that she would be asked to leave it all behind in order to begin a similar program in her native United States. Through her grief, loss, and finally joy, Louise chronicles God's great faithfulness in creating for wounded and homeless children the Salem Children's Home and School in Western Maryland. There, bringing peace and healing to young people who have known only brokenness and pain, God has shown Himself to be a "Father to the fatherless." Words from one of the grown children: Hello, my name is Aaron. I came to Salem when I was six years old. When I was at Salem I was angry at God because I could not understand why a loving God would take me away from my family. But now I thank God every day for Salem. I could go on for days about why Salem was an amazing part of God's plan for me, but I will simply say this, I am now able to minister to many lost people in Baltimore City. I truly from the bottom of my soul thank you for training me as a child, because the Scriptures held true. I did not depart from it!
