Navajoland... It's a place of beauty where flat deserts are interrupted with rugged rock formations and forested mountains. Its home to the Navajo, the largest nation of Native Americans in America. It also became home to Jim and Kay Baker in 1975 when they responded to God's call to become houseparents to Navajo boys and girls. Caring for nearly three dozen youngsters over fifteen years, there were times when they really were a "Bakers' Dozen!" As you read their story you will soon realize that this is God's story lived out in their lives. Jim and Kay Baker met in Lancaster, Pennsylvania when they were youngsters. In 1969 they were married and in 1975 God called them to Navajo Missions (now Navajo Ministries). As houseparents they became "Mom and Dad" to children needing a home. In 1987 Jim succeeded Jack Drake, the founder, as President. Kay served as Director of Children's Services for many years. Today, Jim and Kay serve as Co-Directors of the Partnership Ministry at Navajo Ministries. The Bakers have two married children living in the Farmington area. Lisa and Jami Chavez have a daughter, Breann, who lived just three years before returning to her home in heaven. David and Heather Baker have two daughters, Seattle and Samantha.

There is a reason you are occupied by thoughts of your destiny, or purpose of existence. You have an innate need to seek out the plan God created for you. You were designed with a craving to reach your destiny. I did not know I had been chosen by God to fulfill a purpose in His plan. The Bible is full of promises of protection, provision, and abundance. However, as we step into the life God has called us to lead we feel fear, uncertainty, and a lack of resources. Just about the time we get trucking along, something we depended on gets changed, and we are forced to make adjustments. During which times we experience fear, uncertainty, and even anger, our faith is challenged. When a tree is left to tend to itself and the dilapidated branches droop to the ground and dry up, producing no fruit, only leaves, it is trying its hardest to restore itself. But, all its efforts are in vain, because all its energy is going to sustain the dilapidated branch with leaves. It does not possibly have the resources needed to also produce fruit. It's taking everything it has just to survive. Do you know what that feels like? Are you pouring everything you've got into your life, and still just barely getting by? Knowledge of your identity is crucial in fulfilling your destiny. It will be used to encourage you. As you travel this road to fulfilling your destiny, you will need the proper tools. All of the tools are crucial for traveling the path you were destined to walk. When you step into your destiny, you will be exhilarated, ready to do what you are certain God has called you to do. At this point, you are experiencing the power Paul wrote about in his second letter to Timothy, "For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline" ( 2 Tim 1:7 NIV). As the self-discipline lessons begin to shape you, you will feel the pain and confusion caused by the pruning. Yes! You have been pruned by the gardener (John 15); you are a branch with hardly any leaves or anything left on it; you feel naked, exposed and vulnerable. It is the winter of your transformation. It is in this time that you must allow the Holy Spirit to guide you. Relying on your feelings will not do. Every ounce of logic and analysis will tell you to turn around, pull out, stop, abort mission! But, it is not the truth. Only the Holy Spirit can guide you through this season. "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control" (Galatians 5:22-23 NIV). You will produce much fruit by the power and direction of God.

Dr. James R. Love, Sr. serves as the Senior Pastor of Love the Gospel Church in Temple Hills, Maryland. A native of Washington D.C., Dr. Love was ordained to the ministry in Evangel Church in 1983 and served on the Pastoral Staff with responsibility for Christian Education. From May 1983 to August 1997, he served as Principal of Covenant Christian Day School in Greensboro, NC; and in 1997, Dr. Love accepted the call to the Pastorate of Faith Tabernacle United Holy Church of America, Inc. on Capitol Hill where he served for 10 years. In addition, Dr. Love currently serves as the Chairman of Greater Washington Christian Education Association, Inc., a non-denominational, Christ-centered training resource to encourage all phases of Christian Education that would help to transformed communities and churches for the Lord Jesus Christ. Dr. Love is the author of several books, including the Gathering Place, Get Over Yourself, and Black Presence in the Bible. Dr. Love received his Doctor of Ministry from Westminster Theological Seminary, Philadelphia, PA. He holds a Master of Divinity from Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington, D.C., and a Bachelor of Science from Lincoln University. He is married to Deborah, a gifted educator in the Prince George's County School System. They make their home in Bowie, Maryland. The Love's have three adult children- James, Jr., Deja and Devita.

We need to learn how to draw on the position that is already ours in Christ. We need to step out in faith presenting ourselves to the reality of the forty things that happen to a believer the instant they become a Christian. I was born a Canadian in Prince George, B.C. and the youngest of seven children. Among many moves I now reside in Saskatchewan. I have endured through many painful tears as a young girl and now as an adult, but that did not stop me for the passion I have in my heart. When promotion comes, all hell breaks loose! STEPHEN RAY WILLIAMS is a retired electrician. Born Again at the age of ten. He is gifted with a natural talent and magnificent aptitude for math. Williams was able to show and display his natural gift at an early age, teaching a second semester math class at the age of eleven. His logical and analytical mind has also brought him a chess trophy (third in the state in the junior division) at the age of thirteen, and an award for the world's largest unofficial MagicMath Square in his ninth grade science fair at the age of fourteen. As Williams' extensive knowledge was acknowledged, opportunities to share it were in demand. He taught one class in Number Theory at the Oral Roberts University in his mid twenties. Williams also had a Math Formula copyrighted and also earned a Doctor of Naturopathy certificate, a drug-free medical treatment. He won a baseball trophy in his teens, he square danced for seven years and involved in two square dance Exhibitions. He played a fiddle for five years. He has written several poems about his best friend (a cat named Tiger Ray): they have been published in seven books, two of which went international, one became a song and got up to a Nation Release. He also has won three trophies for his poems about Tiger Ray. His favorite place for relaxation and vacation is the Billy Graham Training Center at the Cove, in Ashville, North Carolina.
