His eyes locked on the body bags then shifted to the letters found at the accident. What a story they would tell. The effect on Detective Dutch Vandenberg would be life changing. After reading them, Dutch knew he had to find KC Harmon. Why had she not written when he went to Vietnam? What he learned from KC's mother would shook his soul. KC was alone with her young child, abandoned by her meth addicted boyfriend, an old friend named Jack Dolan. Dutch held a small box of letters that Emma Harmon gave him. Letters Dutch had written but that KC had never wanted to read. So afraid he would be killed in Vietnam, KC couldn't bring herself to read them. He found her living in Avila Beach, a small coastal town south of San Luis Obispo, Calif. He found something else. KC showed him letters she had written him but never sent. Her girlfriend's boyfriend had been killed in Vietnam. KC couldn't bear losing Dutch too. Soon their lives began as one and just as soon, tragedy struck. Dutch was assigned to a Task Force aimed at bringing down the "Vato Locos", a Mexican Street gang whose meth operations was flooding the streets and the State Prison System. The operation went as expected but what was unexpected was the late night attack by gang members that nearly killed KC. Dutch loved being a cop but he could no longer keep her safe, teaching would be safer. For twenty years, theirs had been a near idyllic life with a love strengthened by reading those letters never read and never sent. Suddenly the memory of that late night ambush twenty years earlier resurfaced. An aneurism, the result of brain trauma from the assassin's bullet, put KC's life at risk. As always though, the letters strengthened their love that is until a slight trip on an early morning walk. While in his arms, the small clip used to hold the aneurism slipped and suddenly she was gone.News of the shooting death of his old partner brought Dutch to Idaho. What did CJ discover that someone would want him dead? With his son-in-law, FBI Special Agent Joe Eagan, Dutch came face to face with the brutality of the Aryan Nation. The racial killings, fire bombings and brutal assaults sickened Dutch. But meeting the victims changed Dutch's life forever. Kay Morehead lost her husband and son, one because of his activism and the other because of his orientation. He met Kay's niece, Sandy Slaughter and her boyfriend Kemo Malafulu. He lay in a hospital bed beaten nearly to death. Kay was drawn to this stranger. He made her laugh, he made her feel safe. She longed to be loved again. Dutch sensed her pain. He wanted to protect her just like he did KC. It pained him. Dutch with his son Danny, an attorney, and his son-inn-law, would learned how far the tentacles of the Aryan Nation reached into law enforcement and politics in Idaho. The deeper they dug, the more dangerous it got, a thought not lost on Dutch. Protected by a corrupt sheriff and his followers, the Senator had to find a way to protect his dream, a dream of a White America. The arson's fire bomb ignited the evening sky as Dutch and Danny arrived at Kay's house. As he screamed and fell to his knees, his only thought was he had lost her; just as he lost KC. Would God do that to him twice? The wire taps that Judge Steinberg approved gave them all they needed. Could they take them down? Could Dutch see that Kay was not the next love of his life but his last love?

African Americans, Blacks, have long been associated with religious faith.Since the dawn of our time in America from 1619 to the present day. Do we see this. The Black Church has long been, and is still, seen as a bastian of hope in the Black Community. And for good reason: many of our Civil Rights champions came from the church. This fact, while brilliant and admirable, does not dismiss the evils associated with the church. Some of these evils include Jonestown, Waco, and 911. The appalling actions done "in the name of god" are highly capable of ruining lives on an epidemic scale. Not only can lives be lost but, lifestyles can be ruined as well. Entire fortunes have been squandered as well as childhood innosence all in the name of god. What is being done about this? Much of the ill-begotten deeds of religions squalid past are conveniently swept under the rug. From the pope to the small time country preacher, are the dirty deals kept hidden from the masses.Members are encouraged to "play along" and do everything the spiritual leader tells them to do.Members that seek answers are shunned by the spiritual leader and his/her brainwashed flock(maintaining that the will of god demands absolute trust and faith). This naturally sets the stage for confusion and betrayal. The pastor/preist is given a free pass to commit all kinds of bad things while the congregation looks on in confusion. And this same pastor/preist grants "special favors" to those who played along in a fitting and proper way in his eyes. All of this is done to achieve salvation and go to heaven when one dies. The time for change has come."The Black Atheist in America" by Jason Winn represents that change.Jason Winn, a former Christian himself, has seen the limited horizons and dirty deals done inside of the church. He struggled with faith for 34 years until he said,"enough is enough!" The Black Church is seen as a haven of hope to most in the Black Community but, this is only a half thuth. The other half of truth regarding the Black Church is lack luster at best. The Black Community is still #1 in crime, AIDS, and low education but, the Black Church is still going strong. This is due to the Black Church not taking a stand against the negative elements within its community. The time ,energy, and money used to build and support the church could be redirected to assist in supporting the community. Both the church and community are made up of people. And these people are needed to get things done."The Black Atheist in America" exposes this very basic truth along with many others. The reader will see the violent history of religion from The Crusades to the present day ethnic cleansings taking place in Africa. The reader will see the glaring hypocrisy running rampant in the church: faith healers and mega churches. The reader will also see how the church uses children(the most innocent among us)to fuel its turbo charged-high energy message to swell its membership. And finally, the reader shall see how a reason filled mind will triumph over a faith filled mind.A reason driven mind will be progressive in its function (forward moving). A religious driven mind will be retrogressive in its function(backwards moving). Jason Winn provides a simple example of this dynamic by explaining the passing of time.He states that, "Time is progessive and moves forward." He further states that this progression can be seen in technology throughout the ages: Stone to Bronze and Industry to Information.

  • - Promote Effective Team Behavior and Productivity by Stimulating Creativity
    av Juna Jinsei

FUNdaMENTAL CreativityThere is no greater way to promote productivity in the workplace than by supporting the well-being of the company's employees. The staff should be first priority, because they are the greatest asset of the business. Without passionate engaged employees, neither product marketing, sales, or shipping would be possible, nor could any services be properly rendered. FUNdaMENTAL Creativity is a well-organized accumulation of positive entertaining stimuli that can be offered to employees, coworkers, students, or children to get the creative juices flowing throughout your company, department, classroom, or family. This will then spill forth in waves of enthusiastic motivation to achieve the best job possible, which will result in a unified camaraderie along with the enrichment of achieving one's personal best. Managers and supervisors will know they are on the right track when their employees prefer to be at work rather than at home, simply because of the fun atmosphere and great sense of accomplishment they obtain while on the job.DescriptionAmidst the toil and hardships dished out by life, it is a fact that the psychological and emotional needs of ordinary people should be taken into account and adjusted to the workload at hand. By keeping the mind active and alert with challenges that include an element of fun, even the most arduous, boring job can be enjoyed until the task is complete. This is because man is naturally a creative being. Creativity, like spirituality, requires a combination of mind, heart, and soul. They go hand and hand, and should be experienced daily. Those who participate in this exercise regularly will partake in the joy of life whether at work or play.Playful creativity makes work fun and leisure time more significant. By applying the riddles, puzzles, and challenges in FUNdaMENTAL Creativity, the employees in your office, students in your classroom, or children in your family will have their curiosity aroused and mental energy revitalized so they can activate their peak performance while learning something new every day.About the AuthorDr. Juna Jinsei received her Ph.D. in Pastoral Counseling Psychology. She is the founder and president of World Wholeness, Inc., which she owns and operates in St. Petersburg, Florida. At the commencement of her career, Juna became part owner of an advertising agency in Caracas, Venezuela, promoting some of the largest national companies from Gerber Baby Food to Lagoven Petroleum. A decade later, she moved to Japan and taught at a variety of business schools until returning to the United States, where she opened a marketing design business. After accepting a position at an international stone startup company, Juna was quickly promoted to Vice President while helping them more than double in size every year until they became a multimillion-dollar business. A Word from the Author"I came to the conclusion many years ago that making people happy, no matter how it is done, is never frivolous or in vain, and should be carried out with great enthusiasm whenever possible. I know I would never have come to this conclusion fully without having had the advantage of applying this concept as a manager, vice president, or owner of a company myself. There is no doubt that happy workers are productive workers, which are the foundation of a successful business, and I am certainly one who can advocate that fact."

Many people simply do not know what it means to live a Christian life. They live by a few memorized verses, sound-bites from favorite teachers, etc.; but they often cannot see the forest for the trees. Therefore, they live in a quasi-spiritual manner, constantly shifting from one dimension (carnal or spiritual) to the other. As a result, they don't ever truly experience the fullness of God's blessings. This book attempts to reveal the whole concept of the Kingdom of God so that every man and woman who wants to grow closer to God will know how, regardless of denomination or background. If it were a textbook, it would be entitled "Christianity 101".It is written by a man who, like so many men, grew up attending church but never seeing the words spoken on Sunday being lived in the lives of the people every day.One of the main questions that the book answers is this; "what does God want from us". It is a question that is very seldom asked, but should be the first on every Christian's list.If you are serious about Jesus Christ, then this book is of vital interest to you!

"You have a very nice writing style and make it easy for your reader to identify with your words...You have a wonderful compilation and have crafted an excellent piece. Bravo!"-A literary review commentaryAlexander Pope, in his An Essay on Criticism, wrote of a mythical and sacred fountain in ancient Macedonia known as the Pierian Spring. All those who drank from the spring, it was told, were taught and endowed with great knowledge and inspiration. Comparing this to our life experiences, pleasant or not, can be as "teachers" as if we drank deeply as though from our own personal Pierian Spring. When we are put upon by good and badMay we embrace "whatever is" life bringsAnd learn from each though glad or sadCannot life be as a Pierian Spring?-From As a Pierian SpringAs I have written poems about past, present and future life experiences, I began to think about how we can or should view those events and what they ought to mean to us. I discovered poetry can also parallel the Pierian Spring experience, if permitted. So, as you read and consider some of the poems in this anthology, open your mind and think beyond the mere words, to a fuller meaning these symbols might convey. Sound words in poetry, well chosen and thoughtfully placed, serve as tips of truth.Words are pointers for our sensesFor things they representOf mysteries behind invisible fencesOurs to learn their full intent.-From Tips of Truth

  • - Avoiding the Miseducation of Young Children
    av Susan Laurita
    186,-

Parents, teachers, and administrators are still asking the question that a young mother asked me over 20 years ago. "I have to go back to work," she said as she interviewed me over the telephone, "...and I don''t even know what questions I should be asking you!" That young mother broke down in tears as the full importance of her responsibility hit home. For those of us in the field, the impact may not be as personal, but the responsibility is every bit as great. Stepping in Wet Cement is a guidebook. It tells parents and practitioners what is important for young children, why those things are important, and what parents can do at home to maximize their child''s learning potential.

Nathan Fleming, fleeing from Chicago's slaughterhouses, is a volunteer officer in the Royal Flying Corps, struggling to overcome his working-class origins. His newfound friend, Billy Teal, is a wealthy Southerner and gifted pilot who cleverly conceals his insanity and murderous intent. The three fight to survive in the high arena-where the average lifespan is three weeks-and on the ground, where they touch the lives of those whose paths they cross: Rawlings, the alcoholic commanding officer living with daily fear. My book, about the one and only Johnny Maestro, celebrates his life, where he grew up, how he rose from the streets of the lower east side of New York City to become a legend & role model for new entertainers coming up in today's world. My book also pays respect to The Crests, The Del Satins and The Brooklyn Bridge; three fantastic singing groups who individually sang with Johnny while maintaining a sincere on-going friendship as well. I know my book will be welcome in your home, on your bookshelf, and in your heart. I hope it gives you as much joy to read it as it gave me to write it. It was an honor to do so.Truly a labor of love.

    av Ruth Auguste
    186,-

The Tenacity of Hope is a memoir that tells the story of how a mother and daughter were let down by the Haitian justice system when they needed it the most. It's about poverty and violence, rape and childhood abuse, disappointment and desperation. Most of all, it's about hope. The story follows my mother, Marie-Micheline Dantica, through being abandoned as a baby, becoming pregnant as a teenager, having the father of her baby turn his back on her, and being mercilessly abused by the man she subsequently married a man who went on to sexually abuse me from the time I was just six years old. This sad but all-too-common story has a hopeful ending; however, as it tells of how I galvanized my victimization into the strength I needed to start the only international non-profit organization that is focused on providing battered women and children in Haiti with shelter and protection.50% of the proceeds of the book sales will be donated to Haiti projects for battered women and children
