This study book is part of a series of studies presenting the Gospel from the Old Testament. It includes examples of the Gospel found in the chapters of Job, the Pentateuch (the first five books written by Moses), a couple of stories found in I and II Samuel, and concludes with two of the Psalms. The Good News (Gospel) of God redeeming sinners, and bringing them into a relationship with Himself can be found throughout the Old Testament. It is often found in parts of the Old Testament where it is not expected to be. That fact combined with the Gospel in the New Testament proves that the Gospel is the central message of the entire Bible. The Setting the Heart Bible study series addresses questions with questions. The art of interview includes questioning the one of interest. The first-hand information in the Holy Bible gives a balanced perspective of the One being studied. Randall Grabau gives the reader the benefit of his own questions regarding God's being and our relationship to Him. Randall G. Grabau has spent most of his life on a small dairy farm in picturesque southeastern Minnesota. During college, Randall made a personal decision to commit his life to Christ in response to the truth of what Christ had done for him. With that commitment, he became convinced that he could know more about the wonders of God and life for the Christian by purposefully studying God's Word, the Holy Bible. The example in the Bible which has challenged him to pursue its truths is taken from Ezra 7:10, "For Ezra had set his heart to study the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach his statutes and ordinances in Israel." For more that 40 years Randall has determined to study God's Word daily and put it into practice in his life. He derives intense satisfaction from helping others understand the principles and teachings of God's Word.

The Bible often uses words such as "immeasurable, unsearchable, beyond limits" to describe God. One of the concepts of God's being that is beyond our human ability to comprehend is His eternalness. The fact that He is eternal means that He existed before time began, He will continue to exist after time ends, indeed, He created time. One word used, even by mathematicians, to describe something that has no limits is the word "infinite." Our human, finite mind can only truly comprehend things that have a beginning and an end. Yet man's finite lifetime exists within God's infiniteness. How does our human finiteness compare to God's infiniteness? Why would a Being so great as God be concerned about someone so insignificant as me? How does He show that concern? How does God's infiniteness effect what our future will be like? What alternatives exist for our eternal future? God gives us answers to these and similar questions in His Word. May His answers be discovered as you study His book, the Bible which He gave for the purpose of revealing Himself to us.

  • - I Am the Son of God, Resurrection, Life

Has anyone ever asked you the following question, "Who are you?" How did you answer? Most peoples' responses relate to their job or their family name. How Jesus answered that question is given multiple times in the Gospel of John. Each of Jesus' answers is preceded by the words, "I Am." Jesus' answers make Him the most unique Person to ever walk the face of the earth. In his gospel, the Apostle John made this statement about Jesus' purpose on earth; "No one has ever seen God; the only Son, who is in the bosom of the Farther, He has made Him known" (John 1:18, RSV). Jesus came to earth in part to reveal God's character to us as humans. Therefore, each of Jesus' "I Am" statements enable us to know Jesus more completely. But they also allow us a deeper glimpse of the one Jesus called His Father, the One Who said of Himself in Exodus 3:14, "I Am Who I Am?." May the studies of Jesus' "I Am" statements deepen your understanding of Jesus' character and by extension, deepen your understanding of the One God Who is Jesus' Father...and ours.

What is your occupation? Are you in that particular line of work because God put you there? If so, then what has God taught you about Himself and living a life that honors Him through your job? After four years of teaching in the public school system Randall Grabau spent his adult life as a dairy farmer. During the 38 years as a full time dairyman, he developed an understanding of the beneficial characteristics found in the most productive cows in his herd. Interestingly, he began to also notice that the characteristics he wanted to see and develop in his dairy herd are the same ones that God wants in those people who are part of His Kingdom. What are the characteristics of a good cow? How do they relate to us as a part of God's Kingdom? What can we learn from cows about how to be productive in God's herd? The studies in this book will help you answer those questions. Hopefully, you will also be motivated to evaluate your own occupation in the light of what God wants to teach you through the work that you do.

Is the Bible one complete and uniform book from God Himself? If it is, then its good news, the Gospel, must be found throughout its pages, not solely in the New Testament. The result of seeing the Gospel in one part of the Old Testament often leads to further discoveries of its presence in other parts.
