Stage IV is a compilation of poems written from the year I turned 40 to my present state of 45. 45... the year the breast cancer returned and more aggressive than ever before... it has metastasized to my lung. How do you face it... mortality and how do you shuffle off loss let alone life? I write... and call back the pieces to myself... the pieces of myself... and place them on pages. And all that was once gone in a moment... returns for an eternity... Thank you, God... for my daily bread... and for all the books I've written and read.

Poems from the ages of 36 to 39; written during and after my last relationship... it was a very dark time in my life. I just closed a beloved business and had moved several times picking up various traumas along the way. I thought I was about to get my life back on track... I was headed back to law school after a 5-year hiatus when I found another lump in my breast... then I heard my name on the radio... a song taunting me about Redemption... before the year was out I had lost my relationship and both of my breasts... but I only had one year left to finish law school or lose all my credits...it was literally do or die....

A collection of poems written between the ages of 30 to 35; a myriad of emotions scribed between my time in Charlotte, NC, and my move to Los Angeles. Verses penned a year after my first bout with cancer while still recovering from a previous forbidden love; all coinciding with my stint in law school, and my dalliance with a young hip-hop artist who slammed into my life3/4 and my heart. "In my 30s I still thought I knew things. I believed anything was possible and that time could heal wounds3/4 smooth... without leaving a scar... and even if it couldn't, there was always the option of a tattoo; one that could display a better visual and a curated experience, demonstrative of a measure of control and the retelling of a beautiful pain."
