The boy who grew up with limited means could have never imagined the life events that would shape him into the strong, wise and inspiring leader he became. Those fortunate to follow him did not just want his respect, they needed it. He gave hundreds of young people his time, his trust, and his love. At different times in his colorful career, Dick Abel was a coach, a public affairs professional for the Air Force and the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and a real general's general.

The military veteran is a former President of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and served also as Director of Military Ministry for Campus Crusade for Christ.
