But First, We Fall is the incremental tale of a woman discovering herself as she navigates through the world as she knows it. She explores the nuances of love and ponders romantic ideologies while expressing her bisexuality and articulating her experiences through poetry and prose. In contrast, she finds herself tucked within the grips of depression and battling the burdensome love of an abusive relationship. Her pieces range from the personal to the conversational as Gabrielle is changed, transformed, created, and yet unmade as the collection progresses. Who will she be by its end?
