Poems In My Shoe Box is a random collection of poems I stored in my shoebox during my teenage years. Its' focus reveals my deepest thoughts on notebook paper. During those times, my topics expanded my vulnerability, uniqueness, and confidentiality. Finally, the openness is being conveyed after over two decades. Picture this...it's the late 1980s to mid-1990s. No flash drives. No Androids or Chromebooks. No external hard drives. No copying and pasting with a mouse's right click. No cloud storage. Just a typewriter and no whiteout. This was a time when you had to perfectly type it all. One mistake meant redoing the entire page. I bet this sounds ancient like dinosaur times, huh?!Before all the technologies, I kept it traditional with pen and paper. Everything was different. But I learned to organize and kept track of all my poetry, stories, essays, and songs in a shoe box. As time passed, I invested in technical strategies for organizing my work. But I'll always treasure my 1990s colorful, cardboard shoe boxes.
Hugh Oddie has had a rich, fortunate and interesting life.Throughout his time as a student, teacher, banker, marketer, consultant, father, and sage, he has always written poetry from time to time. This is a companion book to the four books of poetry that he has written and produced. It is a book of exposition of the poems found in those books. These are notes for each and every poem. Poems come from wineglass flashes, glints on faces, cameos of emotion. They are words evoked by the light from strikes against the flint of the soul. There is no right way to write a poem, and I encourage you to attempt it.
Nobody can appreciate joy without first knowing sorrow. This collection of poetry explores the duality of these emotions and shows the worthiness of each.
actually i lied, is a thought about what happens after having immense love but falling apart. the book is divided into three sections: the after love, the betrayal, the lesson, the before love. read. enjoy. forget. relive.

This exceptional collection of poems takes readers on an unforgettable journey through life's mysteries and wonders. Her words are a bridge between the tangible and the intangible, allowing us to explore the delicate balance between life's fleeting moments and the eternal. Each poem is a brushstroke in a portrait of life, offering a unique perspective that lingers in the mind long after reading. This poetry collection, meticulously curated by Alan Parry, reflects the commitment of The Broken Spine to quality literature and its dedication to fostering diversity and inclusivity within the literary world.Advance Praise: 'Houbolt is a poet with a rare gift for insight, and she hands it to us smiling, at once wry and tender and always with an intuitive wisdom that feels personal and very real. To fall into step with her work, with its delighted reverence for the intimate detail and mess of the world, the natural world and its overlap with what humans wreak, and our own internal navigation, is to forget you're reading poetry at all. Her works are creatures far too busy living, out there in the sun and rain with skin humming and eyes open, to be aware that they're on a page, and it's this sense of brimming-aliveness that we carry away from any encounter with her skill. The generosity of spirit inside turns of phrase that make simple language build new images and lateral perspective is infectious and inviting, and every poem turns the stone to reveal a small and perfect surprise. Magic beneath in common places, in the infinite drive, in the human desire to hope that is the invisible engine powering all she writes. .... You cannot read this poet and walk back into the mundane unchanged, untouched by an awareness that everything you do, every interaction you have with the world, is a spell that gives and takes. That everything is transient and precarious and yet everything endures. Houbolt's deceptively deep refrains are a recipe for interaction with a world that pushes back but cannot take us down, and an antidote for the bitterness when it's tried.....'Ankh Spice, author of The Water Engine 'Kyla Houbolt's poems wouldabeen so punk 40 years ago, .30 years ago Kyla's collection, Surviving Death, would have crowned the Goth World. Never emo; dear God, never that. The poems in Surviving Death never foam from the trite or the emotionally derivative; and though her poems stalk death they are never haunted, shunted, or stunted by it. This collection pulls back the shroud of death, but not for the sake of being poetically macabre. Kyla Houbolt examines the fabrics of existence simply to ask it, "is that what you're wearing out tonight?" With Surviving Death, on the backside of our tombstones Kyla Houboult sits, planting foamflowers, and embracing Life in every stanza.'upfromsumdirt, author of Deifying A Total Darkness 'Kyla's poems aren't lengthy but they are, like a Time Lord's Tardis, so much bigger on the inside. This collection has an urgency which is packed with the most startling juxtapositions. The one poem, Fruit, contains the lines, The dancer lifts her leg/high in the air./The dog only lifts his/so far. Two images not many of us would think as an obvious pairing and the impact is thrilling. These poems give you much to reflect upon. They are invitations to a conversation. They leave you with questions. They muse upon how we live in the presence of death, how we live without destroying nature. There is an incisive wit to this writing. In the poem, Bones, the bones of the dead ask to be remembered but then one asks something different, Can you take this arm bone and make a flute please? That's precisely what Kyla has done in this powerful collection.'Beth Brooke, author of A Landscape With Birds
Every hobbyist has scraps left over from larger goals. Rather you are a painter with a wet palette, a fiberist surrounded by bits of cloth, or a writer swimming in stacks of mostly used journals, all creatives have leftovers. Small memories of entertainment that are completely useless but too much fun to disregard. Let's face it, we artists have way too many bins of stored parcels simply waiting for the perfect moment to be released. Well, the wait is over for this selection! Ten years, millions of words later, my scraps are being dumped out and put on display. While all of the works have been plucked from personal notebooks, most of the entries are in one form or the other fictional. In no way is this book a confession to the madness expected from the life of a poet set free by word and revolt.
With Written in Plain Sight, I'm once again asking myself some deep and probing questions. Every poem in this manuscript was created to motivate and inspire the greatness of the soul. I'm trying to push myself to confront my past and present demons. Some of them have originated from inside of me and others have been sent after me from outside forces. The hardest ones to deal with are the ones coming from the inside. This is why I pray and write and write and pray. Ask God for forgiveness and praise him for giving me so many chances to get my shit together. Besides the political observations and Conscious Commentary, Written in Plain Sight has a lot of facing the man in the mirror moments. Self-Love, Self-Respect, Self-Esteem, Self-Worth, Self-Reflection, Self-Awareness, Self-Motivation, Self-Acceptance, Self-Redemption, Self-Care, Self-Savior, Self-Examination, and Self-Abnegation are all touched on throughout this poetical biography. I didn't initially intend to go so far or so spiritually deep but when God wants you to bring it all out, you can't say no. Plus, I'm not sure if time is still on my side. I know that nobody knows the time and hour, but as I get older, I hold each second a lot more precious than I did when I was under 50. As always, I want to THANK everyone for showing up for me and giving me so much love and support. I will never forget it or take you for granted. So, now turn the page and welcome to my 16th public therapy session. Love, Born Free #therealbornfree
This book is for the broken, the damaged and scarred. This book is for the walking dead who have learnt to live as best they can with hollow hearts and gaping wounds."They (the poems) are straight from the heart, soul and gut. They are never trite, never overblown but wonderfully, articulate and rich in imagery." S Moore Broken people get through the experience of brokenness and then have to adapt to living with it and its effects on the other side.To deny we are broken is wrong. To try and forget the horror is wrong. Who we are today has been forged out of the trauma we have been though. Our lives now take a different, somewhat darker turn.Vampirical Verse reflects the emotional, mental and spiritual fallout from cancer. These poems are an attempt by Freya Pickard to express the inexpressible. Warning - the poetry in this volume contains themes of death, suicide, cancer and sexual acts which some readers may find upsetting.
Petals of The Red Dahlia is a collection of poems that captures the poet's battles with mental, physical, and emotional health which came to fruition, as a result of personal traumas. Moreover, the bold color of the red dahlia on the cover of the collection foreshadows the vivid imagery, brutal honesty, and the poet's unrelenting audacity to heal out loud despite the opinions of others.
Pitiful Poems is a graphic poetry collection, for adults who enjoy the macabre and twisted. This work takes inspiration from classic poets such as Roald Dahl and Edgar Allan Poe, but with a debauched and sinister edge. Featuring illustrated, dark fairytales, this book cleverly and wittily explores sensitive topics, such as addiction, depression, tragic romance, fragility and hopelessness. It will make you laugh, nervously and probably creep you out.
Hold On Til Morning is a small poetry collection featuring work that centers on mental health and navigating the daily struggle that comes along with having a mental illness. Some of the recurring themes include: anxiety, depression, dissociation, panic attacks, PTSD, trauma and more.
A collection of poems, written throughout the years showing how healing is not linear, and how it's sometimes messy.
27 is a collection of 27 poems that are inspired by the life and work of Jim Morrison. Parry uses the vistas, themes, motifs, and sexuality of The Doors' legendary late frontman to reimagine them after a passage of time and changing landscapes. Morrison himself was a more than a singer; he was a key figure in the sub-culture movement of the sixties and wrote several collections of poetry. As a young man, Parry was drawn to his work and has been a lifelong fan. This collection of poetry is his reactionand celebration of his first literary hero.
August Ren presents her first book, In Love With Everybody But Myself Maybe. A collection of sapphic poetry about the honest, haughty, and gorgeous experience of herself with women in New York City. This poetry book for lesbians and lovers is also for anyone that enjoys raw language and imagery-integrated storytelling. It is a reminder to include ourselves in the love we eagerly give away to others. It is the journey leading to that realization. This 9-year collection is divided into four parts. 'In Love' represents the raw emotions of first times and youth. 'With Everybody' represents the journey through sex-positive exploration after heartbreak. 'But Myself' is a reflection on the genuine, un-glorified experience of subdued loneliness and eating disorder. 'Maybe' is a reminder of hope, detachment, and relearning independence. In Love With Everybody But Myself Maybe presents the odyssey of the successive phases of the heart, the mindless wandering, and the detours into midnight bedrooms across the Hudson River.
Through a modern style, strong and yet delicate metaphors which often draw on the natural world, the poet conveys to her readers both a representation of a modern world firm in its banalities and the portrait of a human being, a strong woman who, at ease in her own skin, summons the fortitude to look back into her past and into the heart-breaking moments that made her who she is now. This collection of poems speaks of loss, pain, love, and the strength required to allow yourself to be brave enough to entrust your heart again to someone else.Raised among the words of authors like Lord Tennyson, C. Baudelaire, E. Allan Poe, O. Wilde, Rudyard Kipling, T. S. Eliot, and Victor Hugo, and by a mother who taught her "to arrange the "galloping moments of existence at such verbal angles as to remind the ear that music bows to nothing, not even the whip of misfortune", Tmbrr(Sì)i does not believe in dates but in the feelings the past holds and that, once brought to light, compel her to write down the words which now with "trembling hands" are being passed to her readers.
