This is a story that the charities don''t want you to read. This is the fate that can befall any of us that you don''t want to acknowledge. For years you have passed them on the streets, as much a part of your routine as your morning shower, your half-hearted scan of the world''s news - fake or otherwise - and the barista who artistically crafts the £4 cappuccino with soya milk, three drops of vanilla, and a flutter of chocolate sprinkles that has to be made just right or it throws your day off in ways that nobody else understands. You see them as often as you see your own family. The disenfranchised. The rough sleepers. The homeless. Camped out and befouling the sidewalks and alleyways of your daily commute, their worldly possessions, such as they are, spread around them -as dirty and worn out as the sleepers themselves, but as valuable to them as your £100 brogues are to you. Occasionally you get the urge to throw some loose change at them as a gesture of magnanimous humanity, but when push comes to shove you would rather tip the honest, hard-working barista who ensures your day gets off to a proper start. Better to support the successful rather than throw good money after bad trying to keep the great unwashed afloat. You have conditioned yourself to look through them - allowing your eyes to pass over them without actually seeing them. A defeated acceptance of lives gone wrong; uncomfortable reminders of what can happen when the best laid plans of mice and men go horribly awry. "Thank god I''m not like them," you think, sipping your £4 cup of liquid gold. "I could never let that happen to me." Until suddenly - inexplicably - it does. And you discover the life you have built was nothing more than a house of cards that crashed down around you with frightening ease. A spate of bad luck, a poor decision or two, and the ubiquitous ''circumstances beyond your control'' conspire to create a perfect storm of events that leaves you cast away on the streets feeling dazed, disjointed, and damned. This is Peter C. Mitchell''s story. But it could be your story. Not to mention the thousands of others, past and present, that have found themselves broken behind closed charity doors. Theirs are the stories that need to be heard. To be read.

Spread over eighteen chapters and a conversational way of writing, this book would surely interest those who are looking to achieve self-confidence, power and success. Excerpt: "Believe in yourself; feel that you are to dominate your surroundings. Resolve that you will be the master and not the slave of circumstances. This very assertion of superiority; this assumption of power; this affirmation of your ability to succeed,-the attitude that claims success as an inalienable birthright,-will strengthen the whole man and give great added power to the combination of faculties which doubt, fear and lack of confidence undermine. Self-confidence marshals all one''s faculties and twists their united strength into one mighty achievement cable. It carries conviction. It makes other people believe in us. The goal of Christianity is that all of us become spiritualized, even divinized by our spiritual efforts through the blessings of the Holy Spirit. In particular, Christianity is centered around the ideal of Christian perfection that leads to theosis, which is also called glorification, deification, divinization, or sanctification. Theosis means to finally achieve a perfect union with God through the grace of His energies where the veil thereby becomes rent between earthly and heavenly matters. Those who attain theosis attain a saintly bearing while alive, and become holy lights unto the world who demonstrate impeccable Christian living with divine qualities. They become Homo Deus, the twice born of the spirit that Jesus spoke of with Nicodemus. It is as if they have transcended the world while in it.Thomas Aquinas wrote, "The only-begotten Son of God, wanting to make us sharers in his divinity, assumed our nature, so that he, made man, might make men gods." Saint Irenaeus said, "the Word became man, and the Son of God became the Son of man so that man, by entering into communion with the Word and thus receiving divine sonship, might become a son of God." While Psalm 82:6 only tells us, "Ye are gods," Clement of Alexander explained for us in detail: "the Word of God became a man so that you might learn from a man how to become a god." This is the goal of theosis.Theosis is very much the purpose of human life, which we can only achieve through the synergy of human efforts to reach God together with the Holy Spirit. That achievement requires continuous work at a process of transformation available to all, but particularly found in Christian monasteries due to their Rules of practice. Over the centuries, many in the monastic life have achieved theosis because their life becomes dedicated to specific routines of prayer, meditation, contemplation, watchfulness and self-review, chanting, worship, internal baptism exercises and lectio divina. These efforts will take us through catharsis (purification or purgation) and theoria (illumination) that are stages of transformation preparing us for theosis (union). We must restore God''s perfect image in ourselves and divinize our human nature to become our highest best self, our perfected self, our sacred self as required by the pathway to theosis. Here are the exercises one must follow, and what one must expect along this spiritual way that embraces the full power of God to bring about a spiritual transformation within us.
Updated and Revised 2nd Edition! Irish Witchcraft from an Irish Witch is a delightful mixture of academia and accessibility; a book that explores Witchcraft in Ireland: how it was, is, and will be. It succeeds where many books have failed - fulfilling the longing for real Irish Witchcraft, while crafting the delicate balance between learning from the past and weaving a modern system based on truth and respect. Lora O''Brien is an Irish Draoí (user of magic) working closely with her heritage and her native land, providing a contemporary guide to genuine practice.Irish Witchcraft from an Irish Witch explores the past:-- Providing an investigation of the Witches'' place in Irish mythology.-- Looking at Witchcraft and magic by examining the customs connected with the Sidhe (the Irish Fairies).-- Examining historical evidence of the Witch trials that swept across the island of Ireland through the ages. And the present and beyond by:-- Working with Irish Gods and Goddesses, landscapes, and energies.-- Examining the wheel of the year, with its festivals, cycles, and seasons of Irish culture.-- Looking at ritual progression through a Witch''s life: magical training, physical growth.-- Providing alternatives to the traditional stages of a child''s life in modern Irish culture. When it was released in 2004, this was the first traditionally published Pagan book ever written by an Irish author. It was the book that this author had sought, for over a decade previously... The 2nd edition of this book continues to do now what it did for so many on first publication - it bridges the gap between ''Celtic'' NeoPagan nonsense, and authentic Irish Pagan Practice.
