I stood leaning on the balcony and looked out over the night city. A cool summer breeze blew, ruffling my hair.
"So, Lili in Prague," I said, turning around.
"Right," Lili replied.
"I thought I saw you on the street the other day," I blurted out.
"I came today, at the invitation of Dr. Smithy."
"The girl was smaller."
"Smaller," she repeated after me.
"And skinnier," I continued.
"And skinnier," she repeated after me again.
"She had wrinkles around her eyes," I added. Lili smiled.
"You know that. I haven't seen you in years. I'm glad you're here," I told her.
"Could we see each other sometime?" She asked, as if afraid she wouldn't see me again.
"I have to go." The city clock struck ten o'clock. *** It's like telling stories of childhood, except that Benjamin grows out of it quickly.
