The famous Filipino legend popularly known as Maragtas begins with the evil king Makatunao, a man of uncontrolled appetites. Civil war erupts when the king attempts to kidnap one of his advisor's wives. After the king's superior forces crush the opposition, the surviving rebels - led by the great Datu Puti - are forced to flee the kingdom.
Barter for Panay tells the story of the rebellion and the datus' subsequent search for a new home.
