"I wouldn't have touched it if i I'd known how far it would take me," Yuri voiced out about decades later in a 2019 interview.
They were celebrated artists in their creative prime, known mostly for short, abstract films of a cerebral and surreal quality unique in Russian animation.
Their longest film to date has been their most recent,1979's Skazka Skazok popularly known as Tale of Tales.
But for The Overcoat, they're aiming for feature length: 65 minutes, more than double their longest film to date. Despite all they faced, Yuri remembers feeling happiness, and one crucial question he hoped to answer with the film was: Where did the happiness come from?
How were they able to make their films since the State Committee for Cinematography did not permit them to write the scripts for their own films unless they were a part of the appropriate writers union, which Yuri and Francheska were not. How did they solved this puzzle?
