Wouldn't it be nice to be a sailor?

In this memoir, the author recounts six decades of his love affair with water and boats, and of his efforts to become a sailor. The story begins with his growing up in southern Germany and first encounters with boats and ships and the sea. It then follows his experiences while learning to sail in Brittany and at the Lake of Constance, and during various regattas on lakes in Germany and Switzerland. It reveals the conflict between his ambitions as a sailboat racer and as a biologist /academic immunologist, documents an early attempt to combine sailing and skateboarding, and follows later in life his seemingly endless search for the perfect small cruising boat. The humorous and self-critical tale concludes with the sale of his beloved pocket cruiser "Intrepid", an ocean-going Beneteau F235.
But who knows if this is really the end of the story?
