Om WHAT IS THE ULTIMATE GOAL OF HIGHER EDUCATION
This book, a collection of my academic articles which I have prepared and written approximately for four years, discusses what is the ultimate goal of higher education from the perspectives of the Eastern and the Western philosophy and religion. The book has three major topics: the author has put three assumptions as the ultimate goals of higher education: social success, the achievement of moral character, and happiness. Among three goals, the author regards happiness as the ultimate goal of life, because it has been the highest goodness and the most precious value in human life. The book is composed of three chapters. First, Chapter 1 examines: Is Social Success the Ultimate Goal of Higher Education? Next, Chapter 2 discusses: Is the Achievement of Moral Character the Ultimate Goal of Higher Education? Last, Chapter 3 explores: Is Happiness the Ultimate Goal of Higher Education? All three articles appear in ERIC (Education Resources Information Center: http://www.eric.gov/), the Institute of Education Sciences at the U.S. Department of Education.
