WHIPLASH:A common type of neck injury that basically occurs when the neck jolts backward or forward, sharply and suddenly
A term used for the force that causes the injury, although not for the injury itself
What characterizes the injury is neck pain, however there are usually other symptoms too
Moreover, whiplash due to a motor vehicle collision can strain muscles or damage soft tissues in the neck

Excerpt from WAD the F*ck: Whiplash by Shelley Wrona:
"My neck pain has been caused by whiplash. It's the worst kind of overachiever. And, it wasn't just centralized to my neck.
It radiated throughout my upper body and affected my shoulders and arms as well as my head, and for me, produced headaches of which I had many.
And, don't forget some TMJD, pain in the jaw. Neck/shoulder/jaw pain interferes with your day-to-day activities.
Your sleep is affected and spending time with friends and family becomes a chore that you choose to just ignore sometimes.
I mixed pain, lack of sleep, and distance from friends, and found myself in a gloomy/depressing place at times.
There is no doubt in my mind that I have dispelled any myths and misconceptions I had about this common, yet invisible injury.
Whiplash is real and the pain is real."
