The tribal Pashtuns AFRIDIS

Om The tribal Pashtuns AFRIDIS

ITS. BRITISH SOLDIER REAL INCIDENTS 1900, THIS TIMEThe tribal Pashtuns of Pakistan, who live along the Afghan-Pakistan border, have long been stereotyped as "violent" and "warrior-like" in colonial and modern literature. A survey of archival literature, however, reveals that oriental representations of tribal Pashtuns are based on different generalizations established and perpetuated during British military missions against tribal Pashtuns. Furthermore, prejudices and generalizations about tribal Pashtuns have remained despite Pakistan's independence in 1947. Recent events in Pakistan's Pashtun tribal belt, with numerous tribes calling Jirga meetings, criticizing and fighting militant actions, and protesting against the state's injustices, demonstrate the tribal Pashtuns' importance and desire for peace. Finally, a quick examination of the Pashtun Tahafuz (protection) movement, which was recently launched (PTM), an indigenous peace and human rights organization that includes both men and women, and its peaceful nature strengthens the tribal Pashtuns' value of peace.
