Violet, during a period of tragedy and bereavement, starts at a private girls' school with a violent history of witch trials, falling in with an advanced study group concerned with the mythological and mystical. The death of a member of the group casts suspicion on every other member. Louise O'Neill likened it to '"Prep" meets "The Craft".'
