The Dream Factory by Catherine Blackfeather can be read as a simple fairy tale (though there are no fairies in it) or it can be read as an allegory of the journey of the soul. A small boy is imprisoned while his ability to dream is being stripped from him. Escape is possible but does he find freedom or simply another prison?
