During the reign of Grand Master De Rohan, a young aspiring knight from Brittany is sent to Malta to join the prestigious Order of the Knights of St. John. He carries with him those precious documents which prove his nobility without which he could never become a knight. His papers are stolen during an unfortunate encounter during his voyage. On reaching Malta he is unable to prove his true identity and is forced to enlist as a mere soldier rather than a distinguished knight. He soon realizes that the person who stole his identity has become a knight using his name. While Alain de Jocet desperately tries to prove his true identity he falls in love with Sword-Lily a young Maltese diva highly admired for her beauty and her performing talent at the opera.
