All people are wise - some before, some after. The story of a woman who wants to realise a long-awaited dream of living in Africa. The mysterious, exotic, colourful backdrop of Kenya serves as the backdrop to this novel. After her divorce, the surgeon Katrin Labert decides to make a new start in a hospital in Nairobi. Her 16-year-old son is enthusiastic about the way of life in his new adopted country. All beginnings are difficult. She feels lonely and not enough attention is paid to her. She begrudges other people their happiness, their contentment and their successes. That's exactly what she wants. But she puts her back into it, wants to show everyone how well trained German doctors are. She spins a web of intrigues and lies not only to improve her own image, but also to gain more power and prestige. One day Katrin is kidnapped by men from the radical al-Shabaab terrorist organisation. Now she gets to know the cruel and brutal world of terror. After weeks of fear, she dares to flee from an almost deserted area in Somalia.
