Social Story

This book provides an opportunity for parents and teachers to introduce the topic of sadness or depression with young children. A social story format was used to help children with special needs to identify challenging life stressors and to develop healthy coping strategies. Sadness in children may present itself as irritability (surface emotion). However, the underlying cause of anger needs to be explored to reduce maladaptive behaviors. This book can help encourage children to discuss their sad feelings with adults. This book was designed for parents, therapists and educators to read together with children in order to facilitate conversations about different emotions. Fluency in speech is required for understanding.
