Raising a Tomato Frog

Both the frog species and the slang phrase are referred to when the term "tomato frog" is used. Both are described below.
- Tomato Frog (Frog): The tomato frog is a popular name for numerous species of frogs belonging to the genus Dyscophus, with the most well-known species being the Madagascar tomato frog (Dyscophus antongilii). These frogs are endemic to Madagascar, and their brilliant red or orange coloring makes them stand out. They look like a ripe tomato. Tomato frogs are primarily terrestrial and have huge, stocky bodies. The ability to inflate themselves is a special protection strategy they use to avoid being eaten by predators.
- The term "tomato frog" is sometimes used informally to refer to someone or something that is quite red or otherwise resembles a tomato. This is a less common usage that might have different meanings based on the surrounding content. It's not a common slang term, and the context of its use will determine how it's understood.
