Raising a Tibetan Kyi Apso Dog

The Tibetan Kyi Apso, often spelled "Kyapso" and "Tibetan Kyi Apso Dog," is a canine breed with Tibetan origins. In reference to its facial hair, the term "Kyi Apso" loosely translates to "bearded dog," which is why this breed is also known as the "Tibetan village dog."
- The long, dense, and coarse double coat of these dogs is well-known for its ability to protect them from the freezing temperatures and high winds of the Tibetan Plateau. Black, brown, white, and multicolored variants of their coat are also possible.
- Kyi Apsos have a reputation for being fiercely independent and loyal guard dogs. Tibetans have long relied on them as watchdogs over their homes and monasteries. They are shy with strangers and have a reputation for loyalty to their owners. In terms of temperament, they are often vigilant, courageous, and extremely protective of their family.
Although both the Tibetan Terrier and the Tibetan Kyi Apso can trace their ancestry back to Tibet, the two breeds are in fact unique.
