Raising a Sealyham Terrier Dog

The Sealyham Terrier is a toy terrier breed of Welsh ancestry. Captain John Edwardes, of Pembrokeshire, Wales's Sealyham House, is credited with creating this breed in the middle of the nineteenth century. Small wildlife like otters, foxes, and badgers were the original targets of Sealyham Terrier breeding.
The Sealyham Terrier is easily recognizable by his or her compact, sturdy build, striking white coat, powerful head with a dense beard and mustache, and folded ears. Because of their friendly and jovial demeanor, they make excellent pets. They are, nonetheless, highly active and need physical and mental challenges on a daily basis.
Like many terrier breeds, Sealyham Terriers have a high prey drive and an independent streak. To ensure they get along well with other dogs and people, early socialization and training are crucial.
The population of Sealyham Terriers, formerly abundant because of their usefulness as working dogs, has dwindled to the point where they are now an endangered species. If you are able and willing to meet their exercise and grooming needs, you will be rewarded with a devoted and lovable companion.
