Pul Siraat

Despite having a relatively recent history, the Urdu short story, or 'afsaana', has grown to become one of the most important literary subgenres in Urdu literature. It is a creation of the contemporary industrial and mechanized era, impacted by a variety of literary movements and trends as well as western influences. It has embraced the evolving topics and techniques of literature as well as the evolving ideals of life that have arisen throughout history. Selected short stories from modern Urdu fiction that appeared in various issues of the online journal "Samt," edited by Aijaz Ubaid, are collected in this book "Pul Siraat."
