From the days of Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson, to the 2016 campaign featuring Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, America's political parties have faced challenges and reinvented themselves using old values to make themselves new again. The 2016 campaign brought an extraordinary new set of challenges which today's parties must overcome. History suggests they will prevail, but nothing is certain. What is clear is that the ability of the two major parties to adapt to new circumstances, positions, and technologies will determine our political future.
