The bond that existed between father and son, developed in the later years, centered around a certain loneliness they both experienced despite being surrounded by loving friends and family. Truth will soon be a key as to why that was the case.
Ricks family continues to face life-threatening challenges, but the love and the training they had received from Ricks mysterious father helps them to face those challenges and survive. The real life cultural and geographical references make for an interesting read.
