Kelly's Lady

Eighth in the Sarge and Kelly Series. Kelly falls in love for the second time, but his traumatic childhood keeps him from marriage.
When his words are misconstrued, he finds himself backed into a wall. She thinks he proposed marriage. He buys her an expensive diamond, but refuses to set a wedding date.
In desperation, he seeks advice from his best friend Sarge, who happens to be his boss.
Because she staunchly refuses to sleep with him, he becomes so angry, he drives into the rear end of a tractor-trailer rig. Crushed beneath it, he suffers near fatal injuries. One doctor pronounces him dead, although he keeps trying to resuscitate him.
