As hundreds of people watched, Jesus stumbled and fell under the heavy cross he was carrying. That was planned. But then he didn't get up. And that wasn't part of the plan.
While watching the Good Friday parade in Cotacachi, Ecuador, Daniela Sarmiento witnesses a murder. The murder of the man portraying Jesus, no less. Without thinking, she races after the killer, only to trip over what she thinks might be the murder weapon.
A freelance, travel-and-culture writer, Daniela now imagines that she can segue into becoming an investigative journalist by solving the case of who murdered Jesus in the parade. Her fluency in Spanish is a plus, but her lack of contacts in Cotacachi, where she's only lived for a month, makes her investigation challenging. Daniela's persistence and willingness to bend the truth a bit to get the story serve her well as she meets people from whom she coaxes clues that she hopes will help her solve the mystery of Jesus' murder.
Will Daniela be able to solve the case before the police do? Does she have what it takes to become an investigative journalist? Or will her interference in a murder investigation get her into a whole lot of trouble herself?
