Green Organic Agriculture

- Optimizing Local Resources for Sustainable Agriculture

Om Green Organic Agriculture

There is no denying the fact that the present conventional agri-food system has witnessed a significant growth at the expense of food safety, environmental quality, human health and social justice. Conventional agri-food system which encourages chemical, capital and energy-intensive agricultural practices has escalated the cost of production. Meanwhile, farmers are at the mercy of manufacturers of chemical inputs especially when their products are not in the marketplaces. Equally, there is a wide knowledge-skill gap about the local resources that can be harnessed for sustainable food production. In view of that, this book was written to expose agricultural stakeholders to Green Organic Agriculture (GOA) concept, principles and practices. The book documents practical experiences, indigenous knowledge, scientific knowledge and relevant technology. It will help agricultural stakeholders to identify and optimize local resources for fertilizers, pesticides, microbial solutions, therapy/prophylaxis, feed and food production hence reducing the cost of production. The book is a strategic tool for developing climate-smart agriculture as well as circular economy and green economy.Summary of the book contents include the following; Part One The Concepts of Green Organic Agriculture (G.O.A) Meaning of Green Organic Agriculture The Need for Green Organic Agriculture Goals of Green Organic Agriculture (G.O.A) Practices in Green Organic Agriculture Part Two Identification and Utilization of Green Resources (of over 200) Botanical Resources *Legume Plants *Non-Legume Plants *Grass Plants *Aquatic and Marine Plants *Aromatic & Medicinal Plants *Pesticide and Fertilizer Plants *Climbing Shade Plant *Packaging Plants *Multipurpose Plants *Plant Wastes Biological Resources *Animal Wastes *Beneficial Organisms Agromineral Resources *Liquid-form Agrominerals *Solid-form Agrominerals Basic Technologies *Simple Farm Machineries and Implements *Plasticulture *Preservation Technology *Packaging Technology *Material Conversion Technology *Monitoring Equipment Part Three Simple Steps for Producing Selected 28 Organic Inputs *Microbial Solutions *Fertilizers and Bionutrients *Pesticides and Repellants
