Conventional agri-food system which encourages chemical, capital and energy-intensive agricultural practices has escalated the cost of production. Meanwhile, farmers are at the mercy of manufacturers of chemical inputs especially when their products are not in the marketplaces. Equally, there is a wide knowledge-skill gap about the local resources that can be harnessed for sustainable food production.
