Eternal life is not something we can earn through good deeds or by being a good person, it is a gift from God that is received through confession, repentance from sin and believing on Jesus. God saved you by his special favor when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done so none of us can boast about it.
