When Evergreen Stem School senior Fina Stefani, an award-winning jazz mezzo-soprano, meets a new senior on the first day of class, her world is knocked askew. There's something about green-eyed Tilley Jameson, the lesbian goth with a pitch-perfect alto voice, that threatens Fina's boyfriend Trevor Labowski. Once Fina discovers the Jameson family is a safe harbor from her stormy alcoholic mother, Summer Kobayashi, and she spends more and more time with them, Trevor threatens to expose that her new friend's family has magical powers.
