Om Fei Xiaotong Studies, Vol. II, English edition
The year 2016 was a significant year for honouring Professor Fei Xiaotong (1910-2005), because it was the 80th anniversary of his fieldwork in Kaixiangong Village.
Fei Xiaotong Studies (Volume 2) consists of articles by authors from the UK, Japan, USA, Germany, China and Hong Kong. The main articles focus on Fei Xiaotong and related studies, with China in comparative perspective. It also includes a reflective article that demonstrates the process of the globalization in Chinese sociology, and a predictive article that provides a vision of world anthropology with China and other countries as participants. Four appendices are included in this book. They are 'Chinese Social Science' - a branch of 'Chinese for Specific Purposes' (CSP) - written by UK-based Chinese educators and experts in translation studies, a dialogue among American, UK/Chinese and German/Chinese scholars exemplifies how Fei Xiaotong's work contributed to the globalization of China's sociology and anthropology, and a translation into English of President Xi Jinping's speech given at the National Symposium on Philosophy and Social Sciences in 2016, as it may be helpful for understanding the characteristics of philosophical social science as a Chinese school of social science and promoting the globalization of Chinese social sciences.
This is also Volume 2 in the Globalization of Chinese Social Sciences book series, edited by Xiangqun Chang, Director of Global China Institute and Honorary Professor of University College London, UK.
The Globalization of Chinese Social Sciences book series is published jointly by Global China Press (GCP) and New World Press (NWP). GCP is the first UK-based publisher specializing in dual language publications that focus on Chinese perspectives of the world and human knowledge and non-Chinese perspectives of China in a global context. NWP was founded in 1951, and is a member of the China International Publishing Group (CIPG). It publishes multilingual books on social sciences, literature, management and other disciplines that serve to introduce China to the world. As early as the 1980s, NWP published the China Study series in English, covering China's economy, politics, ethnicity, population, history, sociology and anthropology, and including Fei Xiaotong's Toward a People's Anthropology (1981), Chinese Village Close-Up (1982) and Small Towns in China (1986).
