Elsan's Handbook of International Management

Om Elsan's Handbook of International Management

The book is about International Management practices in cross country business environment. International management implies the management of business operations in more than one country. As internationalization of businesses has become a reality all over the world, managers are practically certain to work together with members of other cultures throughout their careers in foreign operations. This being the case presents the intricacies of International Management. As culture is occasionally very important so the managers need the skills to know which culture and structure are important, and respond applicably. There is also need to have the far sightedness and understanding to comprehend the national variances. The failure to be familiar with these differences is sometimes the common cause of failure for multinational enterprises. Besides, international management practice is becoming a field of its own. Nearly every management textbook being used in business syllabi today has at least one chapter devoted exclusively to international management. Colleges and universities are offering degrees ranging from associates to Ph.D.'s in the field. Just as companies gradually come into the international business arena, the number of management openings will grow. About the author Hassan Elsan Mansaray holds a Ph.D. in International Management from the Atlantic International University (AIU) Hawaii USA, an M.A. in Development Studies at the Institute of Social Studies (ISS), The Hague, the Netherlands, and a B.A. in Education and Linguistics at Njala University College (NUC) - University of Sierra Leone. He was Head of Human capital management at United Bank for Africa (UBA Sierra Leone) (2008 - Jan. 2011), Office Manager/Researcher at Conflict Management and Development Associates (CMDA) (2005 - March 2008), Secretary-General - Sierra Leone Health Services Workers' Union (SLEHSWU) (1998 - 2002) and former Chairman of the Education Board of the Sierra Leone Labour Congress (SLLC) (1999 - 2002). Endorsements This book, as much as it deals with the fundamentals of international management, goes further to underscore the importance of culture in practice of international management. The premise is that, international management is a contextual phenomenon. Jesse Porter, IPAM, University of Sierra Leone This book is a great text that I will recommend for students, industry practitioner as well as academics in the sub region because it captures and addresses topical issues in the field of management that has been domesticated to fit in our African context. Therefore, I endorse strongly this book. Ibrahim A. Kebe, IPAM, University of Sierra Leone This book is a testimonial of a serious and focused-minded researcher and writer on management. International Management is a significant discipline in the 21st-century international business environment. As it guides international business partners of business cultures in individual countries, which equips them with the basic skills to apply to enhance success in business ventures. Anthony Swaray Domawa, IPAM, University of Sierra Leone Managing people across cultures is a sine qua non to success on the global stage as a manager of an enterprise which is already global or about to go global. This book captures the key concepts of international management with specific reference to the role of culture and ethics in shaping teams and organisations. Dr Alfred Mbeteh, Arden University
