Musician's RecordIt takes many years to excel at recording (whether at home or in a commercial facility), and if you desire to become a professional recordist then that's what's required. But if you're a musician who wants to garner a reaction to your song, then you don't have time for that. You need to make a Killer Record right now. But how? First, stop thinking like a recordist. If you're a musician, and you record, this book will prove an invaluable resource (I encourage you to read the reviews. People love this book). I explain all the things that I've learned as a high-level professional recordist, mixer, and producer over the course of decades, but as they relate to you as a musician, your songs, and the long view of your recording career. The Goal The stated goal of this book is to convert recording decisions into musical ones, and technical decisions into practical ones. Not only do I explain the musical strategies for making a Killer Record, I also break the technical information down to its core so that you can strategize based on your recording reality. So long as you have what you need to make a record, I can help you make it a Killer Record. This is the only additional gear you'll require to greatly improve the quality of your records.Who am I?I'm Mixerman, a gold and multi-platinum award winning producer, mixer, and recordist. I was in precisely your position at the early stages of my career. I was a musician, frustrated that I could write a good song, only to feel the record itself fell short of it's potential. Over the course of my decades recording, I noticed that the performance and arrangement had a far greater impact on the sound than anything I did on the engineering side. The more musical my decisions, the better my results. What You Can ExpectThis Studio Field Manual is chock full of recording, mixing, and producing strategies designed to keep recording a fun and focused process. You will return to this manual time and time again to help you overcome any impediment--technical or musical--that might prevent you from achieving the results you seek, regardless of your recording environment, regardless of what equipment you're using, and regardless of your current skillset. You can make a Killer Record under nearly any circumstance. It just requires the right mindset. Enjoy, Mixerman

Multiple Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning screenwriter/producer Erik Bork (HBO's Band of Brothers) explains the seven key ingredients in stories that have a chance of selling and reaching a wide audience - in any genre or medium.

With a doctorate in five woodwind instruments and decades as both a performer and a teacher, Dr. Mark Watkins has long been interested in the production of sound. What differentiates his book From the Inside Out: An In-depth Resource for the Development of Saxophone Sound from other music reference texts is its focus on fluoroscopy and endoscopy to supersede supposition and speculation. No other book provides both video and hard-copy illustrations of the inner workings of the saxophonist's vocal tract. Since 1995, Watkins has conducted X-ray and probe camera experiments and consulted with music acoustics physicists from around the world. Now, Watkins shares what he has learned in From the Inside Out, which is filled with explanations and exercises for saxophone performers and teachers in areas including range, relations to vocal mechanisms, articulation, jazz, anatomy, the science of the vocal tract, and extended techniques.

This is the story of two men from a remote Wiltshire village, father and son Joseph and Josiah Lane, stonemasons, whose lives stretched across the Georgian period, from 1717 to 1833. They became grotto builders, men of artistic genius, acknowledged experts in their speciality, but the sort of ordinary craftsmen whose achievements are not normally recorded in the official pages of history. They were responsible for many of the mysterious, decorative, thrilling grottoes which appeared during the 18th century in English gardens, built to enhance the romantic, poetic and artistic landscapes created by rich landowners. From Stourhead to Fonthill, Wycombe Abbey, Wimborne St Giles, Bowood, Bowden Park, Painshill and Oatlands Park, Claremont, Castle Hill, Ascot Place, Belcombe and Norbiton House, Joseph and Josiah constructed brick, timber and limestone caverns, tunnels, bath houses, gambling dens and cascades. Some were profusely decorated with shells, coral spars, slivers of crystal, amethysts, feldspar and calcite fragments, some appeared savage and rough hewn. Christina Richard has pieced together the story of the lives and work of Joseph and Josiah for the first time from a wide range of local and national sources, and has enhanced her account with imaginative descriptions of village and family life at the time for people of their station. The result is an affectionate and revealing portrait of these two extraordinary men, who contributed so much to the elegance of England's wonderful 18th century gardens.
The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars. The eighteenth-century fascination with Greek and Roman antiquity followed the systematic excavation of the ruins at Pompeii and Herculaneum in southern Italy; and after 1750 a neoclassical style dominated all artistic fields. La scala di seta (The Silken Ladder) is one act comic opera first performed in Venice on May 9, 1812. Although the opera is only rarely performed today, the sinfonia (overture) has remained a concert favorite from the outset and is programed often. The name comes from one of the character's lowering a ladder made of silk so that her lover can visit at night. The edition offered here is licensed reprint in reduced format of the critical edition prepared by Clark McAlister first issued as a large score and set of parts in 2013. It includes the editor's informative preface about the performance tradition of the overtures for Rossini's operas, which until very recently have been rather carelessly treated by publishers over the decades. Antonio Vivaldi's best known work is "The Four Seasons". He created this work, featuring musical expressions of the seasons, with accompanying sonnets. Originally written as violin concerti, the pieces are now skillfully transcribed for solo piano. Easily playable for a relatively skilled piano player, it is ideal for both students and performers, and includes the four seasonal sonnets written in English. This solo piano arrangement presents a new, complete, and accessible way to enjoy his playful music while still retaining his unmistakable style.
