    - Paintings from Early until Today
    av Eva Meyer-Hermann
    858,-

While German painting of the postwar period mostly concerned itself with coming to terms with the past and presenting it in gestures ranging from the heroic to the ironic, Daniel Richter focuses on positioning himself in the present. Time and again he devises new ways of being "modern" in a medium that has long been labeled old-fashioned. His pictures consistently challenge the spectator through their painterly and contextually excessive demands, but they do not lecture on moral issues. For the first time, Eva Meyer-Hermann traces the chronological development of Richter's oeuvre across more than 200 examples of his work. The turns from abstraction to figuration and back again that until now have been described as abrupt, prove on closer examination to be a logical consequence and a sign of conscious artistic action.DANIEL RICHTER (*1962, Eutin, Schleswig-Holstein) has been one of the most significant and internationally renowned painters of his generation for more than twenty years. His beginnings in the autonomous left-wing underground and studies with Werner Büttner at the Hochschule für bildenden Künste in Hamburg contributed to his reputation, as has his eloquent public presence.

¿Montgomery¿s photographs capture the reality of Americans in crisis, in all our flawed, tragic, ridiculous glory.¿ ¿Patrick Radden Keefe, author of Empire of Pain: The Secret History of the Sackler DynastyAmerican Mirror is award-winning photographer Philip Montgomery¿s dramatic chronicle of the United States at a time of profound change. Through his intimate and powerful reporting and a signature black-and-white style, Montgomery reveals the faultlines in American society, from police violence and the opioid addiction crisis to the COVID-19 pandemic and the demonstrations in support of Black lives. Yet in his unflinching images, we also see moments of grace and sacrifice, glimmers of solidarity and tireless advocates for democracy. Like Dorothea Lange and Walker Evans before him, Montgomery has made an unforgettable testament of a nation at a crossroads.

Each day new articles, books, and reports present new methods, standards, and technologies for achieving sustainability in architecture. Additionally, new materials, technological gadgets, and data are increasingly considered the staples of architecture’s future. As we increasingly embrace this techno-advancement, we must be equally aware that we may be pushing architecture into a managerial science and away from its core concerns such as expression, contextuality, functionality and aesthetics. Sustainable architecture that is focused on the abstract measurements of consumption, energy, and emissions loses sight of the vital role that architecture holds in our world: it is the field that creates our public spaces and our places of dwelling, of business, of production, of leisure, and creation. Additionally, it fails to comprehend the human dimension of buildings, as elements that are deeply connected to their sites’ historic contexts and that play a key role in defining our social relations and our connection to the spaces we occupy and utilize. “Sustainable Architecture – Between Measurement and Meaning” takes a step back to reflect on how sustainability in the built environment can be theorized and practiced critically. This book exposes that architecture remains a human and social science that lies at the intersection of measurements and meanings. It reveals that sustainable architecture can still operate in a dialectic space of expression, rather than serving as a manifesto for either the technical or socio-cultural extremes. It purports that the human intuition, senses, and skills still holds the key to unravelling alternative futures of sustainable built spaces. And that most importantly, humans still have a place in sustainable architecture. This book will be of interest to students, early career scholars, established researchers and practitioners studying sustainability in the built environment. It can be used as a referencee to those in the fields of design, architecture, landscape and urban design, urban studies, geography, social sciences, and engineering.

With Italy, for Italy is not just a large book of photographs, but an initiative of great cultural and social importance. With this book, Lamborghini, one of the most prestigious Italian brands in the world, has decided to go beyond the traditional logic to take on a social role and play an active part in promoting its country during a time of global challenge. Twenty talented contemporary Italian photographers have been called upon to collaborate in the project, many famous, others emerging talents: each of them has succeeded in interpreting one of the twenty regions along with twenty Lamborghinis, from the past and present, in their own artistic style. And joining these artists is the great photographer Letizia Battaglia, who has been entrusted with a special interpretation of her beloved Palermo. The result is a journey conceived of as an act of love, the love of a company for its own country, translated into a fresco of 21 visions that succeed in exalting a single heritage of identity, steeped in art, history, natural and architectural beauty, and much more. An Italy that is also a land of tradition, excellence, creativity, aesthetic research and innovation, all features that are deeply embedded within the Lamborghini DNA. It is a book that entrusts culture and the art of photography with their highest and deepest value: that of transforming society through the breaking up of all previous expressive languages and the ability to imagine and inspire the future. The photographers involved in the project are: Letizia Battaglia (Palermo), Stefano Guindani (Sicily), Davide De Martis (Sardinia), Guido Taroni (Calabria), Gabriele Micalizzi (Puglia), Camilla Ferrari (Basilicata), Marco Casino (Campania), Roselena Ramistella (Molise), Valentina Sommariva (Abruzzo), Anna di Prospero (Lazio), Wolfango Spaccarelli (the Marche), Alessandro Cinque (Umbria), Gabriele Galimberti (Tuscany), Piero Gemelli (Emilia Romagna), Marco Valmarana (the Veneto), Mattia Balsamini (Friuli Venezia Giulia), Simone Bramante (Trentino Alto Adige), Vincenzo Grillo (Lombardy), Chiara Mirelli (Piedmont), Alberto Selvestrel (Liguria), Fulvio Bugani (Valle d'Aosta).

  • av Tatiana Kisseleff

In the autumn of 1912, Rudolf Steiner presented the first eurythmy performance. It marked the revival, in modern form, of the sacred art of dance, which had been used in the ancient Mysteries to express the movements of the stars and the planets. In the years that followed, Steiner and his wife, Marie von Sivers, developed eurythmy further, broadening it beyond the artistic to encompass healing and educational elements as well. One of the pioneers of this new form of movement was the Russian anthroposophist Tatiana Kisseleff, who became a student of Steiner's and later a celebrated eurythmy teache. In this remarkable book, available for the first time in English, Kisseleff describes the spiritual foundations of eurythmy as they were explored in Steiner's lectures and recounts the instruction she received from him. This is both an eyewitness account of the origins of eurythmy and a record of a deeply personal journey of one person's efforts to master it. The book is illustrated throughout with photographs, drawings, facsimile reproductions from notebooks and posters advertising early eurythmy performances, alongside accounts of performances of various pieces including Shakespeare's The Tempest, Goethe's Faust, and Rudolf Steiner's own Mystery Dramas. This is a fascinating account for eurythmists and anyone who wants to delve more deeply into eurythmy's history and development.
