AN EVENTFUL POSITIVE STORY OF A LIFETIME: Pete in his late eighties recounts the uncertainties of the 1930's, the BLITZ, basic schooling, the benefit of advanced education at the State's expense. Achieving Engineering Fellowship in industry modernizing steel production, power generation, primarily nuclear, and latterly railways in the UK, India and The Republic of Korea. Reeducation in later life to participate in environmental improvement in Power. Personal involvement in care and volunteering with People Affected by Dementia. Interlaced with whimsical comment and fears of reversion to politics of yesteryear.
PEPO: Tales of growing up, addiction and prison is a memoir based on more than 100 letters that John Papacosta wrote to his sister Donna. To preserve his sanity while incarcerated, John wrote stories of growing up in Astoria, Queens, discovering girls, going off to college in upstate New York and Miami, working in the hospitality industry, and much more. His many misadventures, both hilarious and harrowing, showcase his sense of humor, his lifelong friendships and his storytelling abilities. His tales also demonstrate the inhumanity of the penal system, and how it breeds recidivism. If not for a "bank withdrawal gone awry," John may never have shared his stories. His sister, who laughed and cried as she read each missive, has lovingly transcribed and edited his letters to share with the world. From a recent review: From the moment you start reading, you fall in love with Pepo. His writing is spare and poignant. He is able to paint the scenes that transport you to Astoria in the 60s and 70s and Miami in the 80s as if you were watching a movie. Pepo's charm snags you and before you know it, you find yourself laughing with him, getting mad at him for pulling off some of his pranks and empathizing with the horrid life inside prison. The editor has done a brilliant job of weaving the stories from Pepo's youth with the stories from jail, without the reader wondering, "now where are we"? Pepo did not love school or excel academically, but his writing is tight and insightful. Pepo is a story I did not want to end. -- Nancy Wood
Author Thomas D. "Tom" Perry tells stories of women who have inspired him throughout his life.
Revised Edition! Includes contributing Author Index. In August 2020, while the CZU Lightning Fire raged and people were scattered in evacuation, a social media group began. Our purpose was to create a safe place for the people of Boulder Creek to share their stories. The final goal is to publish a book where 100% of the royalties benefit the Boulder Creek Volunteer Fire Department. This book, priced to raise funds, is now available on Amazon in paperback and hardcover. Throughout the world, global warming and natural disasters are accelerating. There is a common experience, a community connection that emerges from these situations. The relevance of this book reaches far beyond a small mountain town on the central California coast, where a wildfire raged for more than a month. The stories here speak to what can happen when people value, support, and cooperate with one another. They learned what to do, or not do, when facing unexpected devastation, extending tolerance and compassion to strengthen connections. In the pages of this book, many of those who lived through the CZU Lightning Fire chose to face the pain of reliving terrifying moments and, candidly tell their stories. They did this courageous act to heal themselves, and each other, and to support the volunteer fire department that tirelessly worked to save their lives and homes. This is an insider's view of what it takes to live through a devastating natural disaster, told through heartfelt narratives against a counterpoint of compelling photographs.
"True Stories from the Wilds of Alaska" is a collection of stories and experiences this author wrote over a long period of time. They came from my life in Alaska, which spans 40 years, and by far were the best years of my life. I was still fairly young when I arrived and when a part of the old time Alaska was still there but rapidly dying. It will never come back, and I will never experience it again. This book is a compilation of those first-hand accounts of the wild and remote living in Alaska before "modern" lifestyles began to creep in to daily life.
In this personal memoir, my recovery from Schizophrenia is told in great detail. Beginning with nightmarish descriptions of ghosts haunting my thoughts to the fear God was dying, my journey to recovery was long and hard-fought. Eventually, as my condition and my faith in God improved, the madness that once occupied my mind began to fade. Where once there was hopelessness, this story tells how I came to live a happy and inspired life. It is hoped this account will help others who are suffering from the crippling illness known as Schizophrenia.
PERTO HERRERA'S BIO: HOUSTON, TX Author, Speaker, Radio host, Humanitarian, Sexual Abuse Survivor, Civil War Survivor....After miraculously surviving the most horrid unimaginable - unenviable sexual abuse as a boy... A native of Chalatenango, El Salvador, Perto left his village to San Salvador, as a refugee, then forced to serve in the guerilla forces, finally escaped to Guatemala, then to Mexico and then to Los Angeles and lived in the san Fernando valley, northern California and Tucson before moving to Houston..... Perto has worked as an agricultural worker, medical assistant, catechism instructor, Radio operator, nurse assistant, textile factory, admitting clerk, and home health staffing coordinator supervisor. Perto has volunteered as a Red Cross blood processor, health and safety bilingual instructor. In 1997 Perto organized his own company Ph homecare mgmt, llc. Provided caregivers training, caregiver's services, and care case management. After successfully managing his own company for 15 years, Perto Herrera became an author and continued his calling to help needy people, especially victims of sexual abuse and/or trapped in poverty......Herrera himself is a survivor of severe sexual molestation and abuse, as a young boy raised in a poverty-stricken family in a small village in El Salvador. The personal lessons learned had led the author to fulltime writing, speaking, and philanthropic efforts to help sexual abuse victims and individuals trapped in poverty......Perto's personal story of abuse is told in his first book, "The Invincible Flying Eagle" ... "El Aguila Invencible Volando" Book One. This painful and shocking memoir tells the story of how Perto was abused by 11 people (nine men and two women) over a period of five years until the day his saving grace - in the form of an eagle, attacked his most dangerous abuser. The eagle, Perto believes to be a messenger from God, guided him toward a safer place and a new chance at life...... I believed and understood the message and the messenger Perto says: ........Summing up his mission, Herrera says: "I want the needy ones and victims of abuse to know that they are not alone anymore. I am here for them as they strive toward the pinnacles of personal recovery." ...True forgiveness can mend and heal broken relationships and renew the person who forgives to emotional wholeness and physical well-being. This includes broken relationships with ourselves.... ... Men who are victims of sexual abuse don't like to talk about their experiences which is why very few men will write a book about being molested as a helpless young boy of seven. And no author, except Perto Herrera, will write a book filled with raw, graphic, shocking and horrid details about those experiences....But Perto Herrera did exactly that in "The Invincible Flying Eagle" "El aguila invencible volando" because he wants readers to come to grips with the reality of childhood abuse and understand just exactly what 'sexual abuse entails'....Do to my passion when I talk about "The Super Power of Forgiveness" I like to see the reaction (for good) on people when they become aware of that I am not a pastor, nor a priest yet I talk about forgiveness, perto says. I can see validity and trust on people, what goes through their minds is if Perto is not a pastor, a priest, or an evangelist - Christian Preaching guy. Then he has the tools I need to learn how to live a happy life in the present by releasing the past. Perto says....I have a mission on this planet to help the needy and/or abused persons, Perto says....I don't have to be famous and/or rich to help the needy and/or abused persons. I have a unique way of doing it, whether by fundraising for small organizations or with the proceeds from the sales of my books and conferences, Perto says. You may read a complete BIO on my author page on amazon.com or on facebook.

Growing up in a small, rural town in Middle GA, success looked more like a cornfield or peach and pecan orchard and rarely looked like me. I was determined to change the picture and did just that by being a first-generation high school and college graduate. Earning two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Criminal Justice and Sociology, a Master of Public Administration, and a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice all before the age of 32, I had a story. How I Used My Lows to Lift Me, Not Limit Me: Becoming a Hard-boiled Egg - A Tough Shell to Crack depicts my determination and willingness as a young small-town girl in chronological order to form a hard outer shell that would ultimately assist me in making a name for myself. Even with a turbulent childhood, I was able to land a federal career and higher education career simultaneously to place me on more stable soil and position me for success as an adult. Remember an egg may be fragile, but when it is hard-boiled, it develops a firmer inner and outer shell which takes effort to crack into it. That's my story!
A country girl with less than a high school education says I Do at seventeen and never looks back. She became the wife of a traveling salesman that became a minister of the Gospel. Through thick and thin, she was committed to her husband and, sometimes, even more so to her marriage. Over the years, she has written dozens of one-line verses describing what their Life Is together, the history that is theirs, and her life in motherhood and ministry. These expressions could just as easily have been "Love Is..." but there is little evidence that she ever separated what she loved from what she lived, or perhaps the other way around.Diagnosed with a brain tumor at age 89, Joyce Samples was a bit embarrassed when her son discovered these writings while helping his dad sort through some long-stored memorabilia. Together, mother and son did some minor editing and added a few pages to update the telling of her life. The son then searched through thousands of photos, several of which are included to help illustrate the words and the history of what this Life Is...

An account of school life in a State Girls' School 1959 -1966 from nervous First Years through to A levels in the Sixth form. Four friends found that, on reaching their 70 years milestone, one of their number had developed Alzheimer's disease. This prompted the writing of recollections of that bygone era, because with Alzheimer's the past is sometimes more relatable than the present. Vivid personal memories were assisted by a diary, resourcefully retained through the decades by the co-writer.The School had an autocratic Headmistress and some Teachers had decidedly idosyncratic teaching styles, but all were fascinating characters and school life was never dull with the background of the events and fashions of the 'swinging' Sixties.
I hope this memoir becomes very helpful to men, women, older generation as well as the younger generation to notice that people can be mean to you without you doing anything to them. Not just that, you may not even know them. Negative people can drain you of your happiness because they are not happy. They would gather people they know or do not know to come against you. Beware of the negative energy that people sends out to you. Keep your positive energy safe. Keep your circles small and focus on your life. Always be you and never let anyone change who you was born to be. You are highly favored, loved, blessed in every way. You are still here in the land of the living, so know that you have a purpose on this earth to help change things that keeps us all at a standing still situation in our lives. We have control over ourselves. We control what we look like, feel like, How we talk, where we work, what we drive, who we allow in our circle, and so forth.God gave us the authority to control our destiny

"A Man in Saffron Robes" offers a unique Thai perspective on the tradition of entering the monkhood for the rainy-season retreat called "phansa". It is also the story of one man's journey of exploration to the far north of Thailand and his reflections on the culture and people of the North as seen through the eyes of this southerner from Nakhon Si Thammarat then living near the bustling metropolis of Bangkok. In 1974 Maitree Limpichart, author, newspaper columnist and government official, temporarily left a wife and two children behind to put on the saffron robes of a Buddhist monk. He traveled from Bangkok to Thailand's northwestern-most province of Mae Hong Son, situated not far from the frontier with Burma (Myanmar). There, along with the other monks at the hilltop temple of Wat Phrathat Doi Kong Mu, he joined in the daily activities of the brotherhood of monks, the sangha. Maitree Limpichart's story, however, is not a scholarly explication of what it means to study the Dhamma, the Buddha's Teachings, in the contemplative environment of the temple. Rather it is the story of a lay individual's experiences with Buddhism and the sangha. Those who have visited or lived in upcountry Thailand will find sketches of life, characters and events that will no doubt trigger more than a recollection or two. Those who have no or only a passing acquaintance with Thailand or Buddhism will find stories here that are accessible, engaging, sometimes humorous, always curious and illuminating. Readers will take pleasure in this book for its humor, its poignancy, its exotic and wondrous setting, and for the likeable and interesting characters one meets along the way.
