ABOUT THE BOOK This is a collection of stories, some of which are true-life experiences, written to teach basic values every young person who desires to be exceptional should imbibe. It serves as a guide to developing the right character, mindset, and potentials on the way to greatness. Avoiding the twists and turns of life are sometimes inevitable but learning how to navigate or get rid of the little foxes that spoil the vines will very well set our young ones on the path to becoming the trailblazers that they are, thereby making the world a better place.

He looks back on the ups and downs, the adventures and stories, the laughs and sorrows, and the travails of balancing work and family, as God peels back the layers of his own life so the power of God can change him.

  • - Seeing in the Dark
    av Kollin L Taylor
    166,-

The Blind Seer: Seeing in the Dark is an eye-opening look at the spiritual war for one's soul.God warned Cain that sin desired to have him. Likewise, Jesus told Peter that satan desired to have him, to sift him as wheat. However, the emphasis is on satan's desire... The Blind Seer shows how it feels when the devil desperately desires to have a child of God. John the Baptist saw the signs and infallible proofs and was confident Jesus was the Christ, the Son of the living God. But after the enemy surrounded John with darkness while in prison, John's faith in Jesus turned to doubt. Consequently, even after boldly proclaiming that Jesus was the Lamb of God, a spiritually blinded John sent his disciples to ask Jesus, 'Are You the One who is to come, or shall we look for another?' The Blind Seer shows what it feels like to question God's love because of the darkness and intense pressure. The Blind Seer sheds Light on what happens when Godly dreams and visions go dark, demons replace angels and war disrupts peace. A time is coming when the Lord will allow the enemy to wage war against the saints and overcome them. The Blind Seer is a preview of how things will look and feel during the dark days ahead. Will darkness prevail over the Light?

  • - Memorias de mi vida sin la tuya
    av María Luisa Deles
    126,-

  • - A Sentimental Journey Through Hawai'i and Wisconsin
    av Lanning Lee
    160,-

Have you ever known exactly what you were going to do only to find out that you don't do it?Did you have a life plan with an ultimate goal all laid out perfectly? Did you then pursue that goal only to find out that it was not the right one for you?In this memoir, I decide upon a career path that suddenly becomes a dead end. Seizing upon another goal, I come up against an insurmountable wall, and while I beat my head against that wall, a new goal develops almost by accident. Can you find your true calling? Here it appears for me in the form of pursuit of a major in English Literature. This journey follows me from earning a B.A. at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa, through an M.A. at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. And then . . .Dreams die hard, but sometimes they do die. So how do you get yourself back on track?Through a series of truly disparate events, experienced on a winding road of various jobs and fortunate coincidences, I discover myself and return to my true calling, finally setting my sights on earning a Ph.D. in English Literature. At one point in Laurence Sterne's The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman, there is a page where Tristram attempts to diagram the story's arc. These are the four squiggly possibilities you see on the front cover of this book, lower lefthand quadrant. My journey has been circuitous as well, perhaps not quite as comedically so, but close. The title of my memoir is a map: Point A: This is commonly accepted as the point from which we all start.Eh: By the way, in Hawaiian Pidgin English, this expression can be the beginning of any statement: Eh, whatchoo goin do?Eh, I like grind some onolicious food. So, eh/A, I begin my journey in Hawai'i.Point Y: Why? What is the point? Why am I here? What am I supposed to do with my life?Point C: We have to see our way to find the answers to life's questions. We have to get out there, try things. So anything and everything we can do we should do.Point B: Mathematics may say it's so, but the line from Point A to Point B to finally C Y you are here is not always a straight one, as Sterne illustrates. Hopefully everything that happens to you along a winding path from A to B will lead you to be what you were, in fact, meant to B.The rest of my book's title is a reference to Sterne's second best-known work: A Sentimental Journey Through France and Italy. This is the book that lays the foundation in multiple ways for who I've become today, and you'll understand why as you read along with me.If you really want to hear about it, and I hope you do, this memoir, told in a reader-friendly voice with an enthusiasm that sparkles through -- I hope -- will inspire readers who have doubts and questions about the true course for their lives, and I hope to capture all that great David Copperfield kind of mystery and joy with my tale.So Eh/A, try read this to C Y Lanning Lee came to B him, and maybe I can even help you to become You.While you read along, I hope you will be both enlightened and entertained as you walk this humorous and poignant path together with me. The two of us will travel a road to self-discovery, and that journey, I'm hoping, will captivate and surprise you in ways that promise to keep you turning pages.

My brain served me though very well throughout my life. Until one day in 2015 it didn't. I first suffered an extreme sustained mania that did not switch off for 2 months no matter how tired or medicated I was. Then after the mania stopped, so did my brain function. It was like a light that burns so bright, it burns itself out. I could no longer think, talk, or even understand what was going on. I was just an observer to the world seeing but not comprehending. Little did I know it then but it would be over 6 years before I could fully regain cognitive function and become, well me again, albeit with some small quirky changes. The process was at times laborious and other times spectacular. This book was wrtten as I went through my final stages of recovery and takes you on the journey.

Thanks to the internet, the author came across Bozo, via her own blog-friend Sylvia Kirkwood in Seattle, who was a blog-friend of Deepak Amembal, of Mumbai, who has graced this book with his very perceptive portraits of Bozo. Yes, the earth is round, and I got a new friend in Deepak. Bozo came to them, and became an Amembal, when Deepak's young daughter brought him home in 2003, nurtured him, and he became family. The author, has a habit of commenting on blogposts in verse. Bozo's expressions were an inspiration, and the frequency of verse increased in direct proportion to the blogposts about Bozo. Deepak very kindly tolerated all this. The author and her friend even made a special trip to the Amembal residence in Bandra, to see Bozo. This is an ode to someone who was one of us. He is now among the stars up there, having crossed ṭhe rainbow in 2019.

    av Janice G Hawkins

There could be no perfect solutions or written responses to life's big questions, but I believe we can all identify and rely on a set of abilities to help us better negotiate change and stay steady in transition. In Our Inner Light, I will open up to readers, exploring issues that many of us face: How can we build long-lasting, honest relationships? How do we find strength and community amid our differences? What strategies do we use to deal with feelings of inadequacy or helplessness? What happens when everything gets too much? I'm providing readers with a series of innovative tactics and incisive observations on change, challenge, and power, including my idea that when we light up for others, we may highlight the fullness and potential of the world around us, discovering deeper truths and new paths for advancement. "When we acknowledge our light, we get the ability to use it," writes the author. "Our Inner Light" is a delightful blend of strong facts and figures and deep counsel that will spark communication. It challenges readers to scrutinize their own lives, discover their sources of joy, and reconnect genuinely in a confusing situation

  • - A Memoir of Brotherhood, Pranks, and Engineers
    av Ben Vosmek
    176,-

A college experience like no other, with maids, fire trucks and a few near death experiences. Join the author on his journey through life at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, America's #1 Undergraduate Engineering School, where he learned more than just physics and equations. During his time at school he became a member of one of the largest college fraternities, Pi Kappa Alpha (Pike), whose (un)official mascot was a fire truck.Life at Rose-Hulman is unique, even without the fraternity experience. The campus is secluded from the city and when you are there it feels like you've entered another place all together. There are maids that change the sheets and tidy up rooms, Sophomore Advisors that guide new freshman and are their big brothers/sisters, and the campus is so safe that no one locks their doors. The college is also highly tolerant of pranks, including allowing the author to fill his RA's car with taco sauce packets. The fraternity experience only added to the adventure and education for the author. The Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity at Rose-Hulman is located on a private twenty-five acre complex with nine buildings, including a storage barn for the fire truck. Most importantly, the fraternity is made up of men who strive to improve themselves and the community. You won't read about scandals or hazing. Instead you'll learn how a group of men build one another up and have some fun along the way. Some of the adventures you'll read about include: building a home-made jet engine, burning two different abandoned cars, an organized foot chase through town at night dressed as a gorilla, and running over a car on accident with a fire truck.

Stranger in the Family is a mixed-media memoir that examines the shifting terrain upon which we negotiate race, kinship, and identity. When my father died of cancer in the spring of 2004, I accepted an offer to teach in the tiny east African country of Djibouti. While abroad, I reflected upon the complicated concept of diaspora, and the alienation I sometimes felt as a foreigner brought to mind a hurtful remark my father once directed at me: "You're a stranger in this family." When my teaching assignment in Djibouti ended prematurely, I returned to Toronto and wrote a collection of essays to more closely examine my "outsider" role within my family and my native land. Stranger in the Family uses prose, photography, short stories, and poetry to trace my evolution as a black woman, a writer, a daughter, and a Canadian.
