Om Alka Madam
This is an immersive fictional story of a feisty young girl, Alka Rawat from the arid deserts of Rajasthan, India trying to break free from the patriarchal set up of her village, make a mark in this world and make her father, a martyr soldier of the Indian Army proud in heaven. Providentially in this story, the Government of India launches an ambitious pilot project of imparting education in a new subject - Human Values & Ethics in schools all over the country and our feisty young lady lands this job as a Human Values & Ethics teacher in an education hub of a town, Rudrapur in Uttarakhand state of India. In no time, she captures every student's imagination with her illustrative methods of teaching, thereby garnering not only respect, but also boundless love and affection from the entire student community of her school. The teacher through the story, deftly covers all the necessary topics in this subject of Human Values and Ethics with the help of examples and exercises leaving a deep imprint on all her students and in particular on 5 students who form a proverbial 'gang of five' in their class. This 'gang of 5 students' will go on to play a major role in this story of the pursuit of Human Values. Even 15 years later and well settled in their lives, a longing to see their old teacher takes them on a transcontinental trip which ends with an unexpected emotional twist and a pleasant surprise. This book and its chapters will serve as a beacon of good values and ethics for all young people, who hopefully will evolve as good human beings with impeccable integrity and law-abiding citizens.
