Our young women are growing up today in a "me" society. Many are being raised in homes where God is seldom mentioned and the idea of living out biblical concepts is almost non-existent. The idea of a traditional family is almost past history, but something that is deeply desired by many young people. I had a big push by the Holy Spirit to start a class for this very thing. After a while, some of the young ladies of our church were asking me to "write down some of the lessons I had learned." The Apostle Paul wrote to Titus.  In chapter 2:3-5 Paul is telling Titus to teach women, especially the older women, women like me, to do certain things. "the older women be teachers of good things, that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed". My husband, Jerry, and I have been married over 60 years, raised five children, have 18 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. I really have had many experiences. As an Elementary Teacher for over 30 years, I have been privileged to get acquainted with many forms of "family" and shared in their joys and sorrows. My prayer everyday as I drove to school was, "Lord let your love for me and my love for you, make a difference in the lives I come in contact with". It is still my prayer today.

I first met Major General Karl Horst on a leadership tour of United States Central Command (CENTCOM) at MacDill Air Force Base, one of the most important military installations in the world. As CEO of the NHL''s Tampa Bay Lightning I was privileged to be in this group and honored when the General invited me to tour his office.  I discovered that General Horst was a big hockey fan growing up, playing on frozen ponds in Wenatchee, Washington.  Our connection was immediate, and my admiration for him strong.Our friendship developed by attending Lightning games, joint service in community projects, and more visits to his headquarters. On one occasion the General showed me a series of photos of he and President Obama visiting a 21-year old Medal of Honor recipient''s grave at Arlington National Cemetery, and placement by the President of an honorary Presidential coin there.  When the President left, Karl returned to the soldier''s grave and retrieved that coin. After months of searching, Karl was able to locate the mother of the fallen soldier and personally deliver the coin to her. In sharing that story with me, a tear came to the General''s eye. It was an awesome moment to see that after more than 30 years in the military, this humble leader never forgot the true mission of service and the ultimate sacrifice made by the men and women of our Armed Forces. This is the miraculous true story of Dikran, an abandoned, starved, and disfigured Armenian Gampr dog that was a one-third sized runt. The story follows his life from being abandoned as a young puppy in the wintry Armenian Highlands; his rescue; his trip to America; his amazing healing, adoption, and training; and finally to his unique and unforgettable ministry. The story of Dikran is told through the life of Benjamin, a fictitious 10-year-old boy who was adopted three years ago into a family that includes Rebecca, his 12-year-old sister, and Brenda, his mom. Ben is small for his age, does poorly in school, and does not believe in God. At the end of each school year, Ben and his family go to visit his new grandparents at their farm in the country. Ben loves the farm life, and the biggest thrill happens every evening after supper when Grandpa tells Benjamin and Rebecca a story. This year the story will be about a dog, and it will take the whole week to tell.
