Through reviewing documents held for over a century in St. Petersburg Russia, DNA tests, the Facebook Lithuanian Genealogical Society, various genealogy websites and traveling to Lithuania, I have unraveled stories of my noble Lutkiewicz and Dowgwillo ancestors who were born in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, once the largest country in Europe. Over the centuries my ancestors lived through Czarist Russian occupation, Napoleon's invasion, uprisings against occupation, Soviet and Nazi occupation, and independence. At the turn of the 20th century many ancestors, including my great grandparents immigrated to the United States. This is a collection of their stories.

I am especially dedicating this book to my father (rest in peace). They say that all good things will eventually end, well for me, that is not the case.This book is the new beginning of bringing back to life the people and things thought to have come to an end. I decided to name this book "A product of my own environment", because; all of us are just that. Growing up in Chicago IL, my environment naturally put inside of me to never speak on things I knew nothing about, and not to mind the business of others. This was all part of everyday survival.

For some, being a parent comes naturally and for others, it takes a bit more dedication and hardwork to be a good parent.Parenting is probably by far the most important job in the world and it¿s a job we all approach with different personalities,different customs and different frame of mind. But whether you are a man or a woman, an authoritarian or a latitudinarian, fromSerbia or St. Kitts, Singapore or Saudi Arabia. We as parents all share one nocturnal instinct. The need to love, nurture andencourage our kids to develop great virtuous characteristics flanked by disciple and a solid moral core. I, for one, wasn¿t alwaysa good parent. And I still don¿t prophet to be one. But what I had was a willingness to recognize that the contentious atmospherethat prevail in my home, the stresses that often overwhelmed my family, more specifically my kids.
