China in the United Nations examines China's participation in the United Nations (UN). There are two research components. First, the author seeks to find a pattern of China's multilateral diplomatic behavior in the UN by examining China's behavior towards peacekeeping operations and arms control issues during different leadership periods under Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping, and Jiang Zemin respectively. Second, a model is proposed to explain this pattern of behavior. By marrying rationalism and constructivism, this model argues that the amelioration of China's external security environment changes in its projected self-image. Furthermore, China's consistently strong view of sovereignty determines its evolving pattern of behavior in the UN.

A Study on Globalizing Cities is the latest masterpiece by Zhou Zhenhua, a famous Chinese economist, who closely tracks the theoretical study of global cities and is actively engaged in the strategic research of Shanghai's development. With rich empirical data and an in-depth analysis, this book is of great theoretical and practical significance. Different from studies on global cities by renowned western scholars, this book extends its perspective to globalizing cities. It explores a unique development model for China's globalizing cities by adopting a creative angle of observation and analytical methods. By criticizing that the traditional global city theory derives the logic relations of global cities directly from globalization, Mr Zhou puts forward the concept of globalization city, which is introduced as a new intermediate explanatory variable. More importantly, this book emphasizes that the building of global cities is not only dependent on the distribution of urban space and urban economic development but also on comprehensive construction of multiple structures and functions of cities.

Based on two and a half years of fieldwork in China, this book examines the cultural genesis and social mechanisms of stigma related to mental illness and HIV/AIDS in China. It also explores the bio-politics on stigma through detailed description of social exclusion experienced by people suffering from mental illness or HIV/AIDS and by systematic comparison on stigma between the two illnesses in the Chinese context. Through the comparison, this book describes the micro socio-dynamic process of stigmatization in the local Chinese context, highlights the identity transformation accompanying the illness trajectory the patients and their families have lived through, and ultimately connects Chinese society and its community-centered social value system and institutional arrangement to the stigma associated with mental illness and HIV/AIDS.

Chinese internal medicine is a clinical subject which explains, using traditional Chinese theories, the etiology, pathology and therapeutic rules of the diseases or syndromes belonging to internal medicine. It is also the foundation for learning and research in other clinical branches of Chinese medicine, thus playing a vital role in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Chinese internal medicine has had a long history. Its origins can be traced back several thousand years. Through long-term diagnostic and therapeutic practices, a rich collection of experiences and theories in Chinese internal medicine has been accumulated and this has gradually evolved into a complete, distinctive and effective clinical branch. In recent decades, Chinese internal medicine has also undergone more significant developments, especially in the treatment of cardiac or cerebral vascular diseases, digestive tract diseases, renal diseases and autoimmune diseases. In order to popularize Chinese internal medicine and allow readers to grasp its basic theories as well as diagnostic and therapeutic methods, we wrote this book in a language easily comprehensible by the layman. For ease of learning by modern doctors, we proceeded from the current clinical practice and outlined the contents with Western disease names. There are more than 80 diseases discussed in this book. For each disease, the Chinese syndrome differentiation and treatment as well as modern diagnostic key points are provided, to make it more convenient for the readers to study and understand. The study of each disease should begin from its etiology, pathology and diagnostic key points, followed by the differentiated patterns and corresponding treatments. The respective points of caution for each disease should also be well-noted. Finally, the questions forming the "Daily Exercises" are useful for readers to check their comprehension and recall of the material. Given the chance, the theoretical knowledge should also be applied in clinical practice so that past knowledge is tested and new clinical knowledge and skills can be learned. Indices to the prescriptions are supplemented at the end so as to facilitate study and consultation. This book is suitable for those who are enthusiastic about TCM and with basic medical knowledge, as well as clinical TCM doctors, nursing personnel and TCM students.
