Wo liegt das besondere Potenzial bilingualen Geschichtsunterrichts im Vergleich zu deutschsprachigem? Ein Spezifikum ist der durch die Bilingualität konstruierte Blick auf die Vergangenheit, der dem deutschsprachigen einen in der zweiten Sprache konzeptionalisierten zur Seite stellen kann. Anhand des Themas »Imperialismus« zeigt eine Schulbuchanalyse mithilfe des Concept Mapping-Verfahrens Sinnbildungen auf, die im deutsch- und englischsprachigen Rahmen vorherrschen. Ob bilingual unterrichtete Schüler*innen beide Konzepte eher wahrnehmen, zwischen ihnen differenzieren und unter ihnen koordinieren können als deutschsprachig unterrichtete, zeigt eine an diese Schulbuchanalyse anknüpfende, repräsentative Fragebogenstudie.What is the special potential of bilingual history teaching? One specific feature is that the past is explained not only in one but in two languages. From a constructivist point of view, bilingualism may thus lead to more than one understanding of what, in which ways and why something happened in the past. As a schoolbook analysis shows, "Imperialism" is a great topic to identify different language-inherent concepts of the past. Concept Maps reveal mutual and divergent German and English remembrance cultures. A representative questionnaire study that is linked to this textbook analysis asks, whether bilingually taught students are more likely to perceive both concepts, to differentiate between them, and to coordinate among them than students taught in monolingual German history classes.

Die Digitalisierung des Wissenschaftsprozesses ist mit der Öffnung der Wissenschaften für partizipative Formate auf verschiedenen Beteiligungsebenen eng verbunden. Citizen Science bzw. bürgerwissenschaftliche Ansätze gewinnen dabei auch in den Geschichtswissenschaften zunehmend an Bedeutung. Der Band gibt einen praxisorientierten Einblick in vorhandene Infrastrukturen sowie unterschiedliche Projektansätze in den Kernbereichen zivilgesellschaftlicher Beteiligung an historischer Forschung. Dabei werden exemplarisch Potenziale und Herausforderungen bei der Konzeption, Implementierung und Durchführung von historisch orientierten Citizen-Science-Projekten beleuchtet sowie Erfolgskriterien und künftige Perspektiven herausgearbeitet. Der Band möchte somit zur Debatte um die Nutzung von Citizen Science als Methode innerhalb der historischen Forschung beitragen.The digitalisation of scientific processes is closely linked with the opening of sciences for participative formats on various levels. Citizen Science or community science approaches respectively are becoming increasingly important in history studies. This volume offers a practical insight into both infrastructures and various project approaches in historical research. Potentials and challenges in the conception, implementation and realisation of historically oriented citizen science projects are illuminated and criteria for success and future perspectives are elaborated. The volume thus aims to contribute to the debate on the use of citizen science as a method within historical research.

Immanuel Kant gehört zweifellos zu den bedeutendsten europäischen Philosophen. Vor seinem 300. Geburtstag im Jahr 2024 haben im Rahmen der Kant-Dekade (seit 2014) verschiedene Aktivitäten neue Aspekte seines Wirkens herausgearbeitet, doch ist bisher kaum die Bedeutung der Wirkungsstätte Kants, Königsbergs und der Albertina, näher beleuchtet worden. Dies war Anlass zu einer interdisziplinären Tagung, die die Historische Kommission für ost- und westpreußische Landesforschung, das Ostpreußische Landesmuseum und das Institut für Kultur und Geschichte der Deutschen in Nordosteuropa im städtischen Museum Lüneburg veranstaltet haben. Diese wird im vorliegenden Band dokumentiert. Die Beiträge untersuchen die Bedeutung Kants für die Theorie der Humanität, Kants frühe Jahre, die Entwicklungen an der Königsberger Universität in der zweiten Hälfte des 18. Jahrhunderts und die spätere Kant-Rezeption.Immanuel Kants probably counts as one of the most important European philosophers. In advance of his 300th birthday in 2024, in the context of the Kant Decade (since 2014), many activities have shed new light on several aspects of his work, but the importance of Kant's basis, Königsberg, both town and Albertus university, has been widely neglected. This was the reason why the Historische Kommission für ost- und westpreußische Landesforschung, the Ostpreußisches Landesmuseum, the Institut für Kultur und Geschichte der Deutschen in Nordosteuropa and the Civic Museum in Lüneburg organized an interdisciplinary conference in Lüneburg in 2021 which is documented in the present volume. The articles discuss the importance of Kant for the theory of humaneness, his early years, the developments at the university of Königsberg in the second half of the 18th century, as well as the later reception of Kant.

Im Jahr 2021 feierte die Evangelisch-Theologische Fakultät der Universität Wien ihr 200-Jahr-Jubiläum. Aus diesem Anlass hat die Fakultät ihre Feiertage unter das Motto »Zukunft der Theologie - Theologie der Zukunft« gestellt. Drei verschiedene Bereiche der Kirchengeschichte werden in diesem Band behandelt. Der erste Teil konzentriert sich auf die Patristik: Von der Frage nach der Entstehung der Seele über die kritische Haltung des Hieronymus zum Bischofsamt und seine Rezeption in der Reformationszeit bis zum Verhältnis von Juden und Christen und dem Athanasianischen Bekenntnis. Im zweiten Teil wird mit vier Studien die besondere Prägung der Frömmigkeit der Deutschen in Russland beleuchtet. Der dritte Teil widmet sich schließlich der Oldenburgischen Kirchengeschichte: drei Arbeiten befassen sich mit dem Hl. Lambertus und der Oldenburger St. Lamberti-Kirche, ein Aufsatz handelt von frühbarocker Theologie und abgeschlossen wird mit einem Beitrag zu den Reformationsjubiläen 1817 und 1917.Three different areas of Church History are touched by the essays collected in this tripartite volume. The first part is formed by seven studies in ancient Christianity, examining the origin of the soul, Jerome's view on bishops (and its reception in reformation times), the Jewish-Christian-relationship and finally the Athanasian Creed. In the second part four studies deal with the history and piety of Germans in Russia in the 19th and 20th Century. The third part collects five essays related to the history of Oldenburg: St. Lambert and its church, baroque theology and the centennials of the reformation in 1817 and 1917.

Für die juristische Untersuchung der kolonialrechtlichen Erwerbsprozesse sind die dem deutschen Zivilrecht immanenten Gerechtigkeitsideale und Billigkeitsgrundsätze maßgeblich. Robin Leon Gogol gibt durch eine rechtshistorische Quellenauswertung einen Überblick über das Kolonialrecht und stellt mittels der Untersuchung des rechtlichen Rahmens der deutschen Kolonialisierungsgeschichte die Auswirkungen des Rechts auf die Provenienzforschung fest, um dann abschließend Kategorien rechtlicher Legitimität für den konkreten Einzelfall einer historischen Provenienzprüfung zu erarbeiten. Dabei behandelt er neben abstrakten juristischen Fragestellungen auch die spannende Herkunftsgeschichte der »Federkrone aus Kamerun«, die mutmaßlich vom Besitz des Manga Ndumbe Bell in die Hände des deutschen Missionars Theodor Christaller gelangt ist.

Argumentieren gehört zum Kern von kritischem Denken und vernünftiger Meinungsbildung. Dieser Band umfasst Aufsätze zu den Grundfragen, Anwendungen und Grenzen des Unterrichts des Argumentierens in allen Fächern und mit Fokus auf die Fächer Philosophie und Ethik. Die in diesem Band versammelten Beiträge sollen ein differenziertes Bild der Realisierung des Corona-Diskurses vermitteln. Dementsprechend konzentrieren sich die Studien auf lexikalische Einheiten, mit denen der pandemischen Realität Rechnung getragen wird. Eine natürliche Manifestation der Diskurse sind Texte, denen auch hierin besondere Aufmerksamkeit gewidmet wird. Beachtung finden ebenfalls Humor in Krisenzeiten und seine Erscheinungsformen wie Witze oder Corona-Memes. Daher gibt der Band einen fundierten Einblick in den Corona-Diskurs mit besonderem Fokus auf die Sprache Deutsch, wobei er auch Untersuchungen zu anderen Sprachen berücksichtigt.The significance of the corona pandemic for societies around the world has been documented in language and communication in various forms. The articles collected in this volume aim to provide a differentiated picture of the realization of the Corona discourse. Accordingly, the studies focus on lexical units, with which the pandemic reality is taken into account. A natural manifestation of the discourses are texts, which are also given special attention in this volume on the Corona discourse. This volume also pays attention to humor in times of crisis and its manifestations such as jokes or corona memes. Accordingly, the anthology gives a well-founded insight into the Corona discourse with a special focus on German, while also considering other languages.

The almost invisible images of a hitherto unknown painter called Eusebius, who worked in San Vitale Ravenna and in Vivarium, are a gallery of portraits of his famous contemporaries such as Theodoric, Vitiges, Amalasunta and a visual commentary of Justinian's tyrannical behaviour. Living between two ages, without belonging to either this solitary man, who was born an Arian but died a Catholic, at once both Goth and Roman Latin, represents the fullest embodiment of a type of cultural "hybridisation" that is well attested throughout history. Eusebius is a spiritual brother of those "hybrid" artists (Serge Gruzinski), who have left extraordinary examples of "grotesques" populated by fantastic beings - chimeras with multiple heads, sirens, monsters, living hieroglyphs of their own contradictory, exuberant, and vital identity. Having survived Cassiodorus, whose teachings he seems to have understood better than others at the time, Eusebius exerted a beneficial influence on the monks of the Vivarium, living to a ripe old age. After having embodied for so long the unbiased tolerance which motivated him in his collaborations with a very diverse range of men and which had been the core of his own life and those of his companions in Ravenna: that mixture of confidentiality, intelligence, pointed irony, fantasy, and - why not? - touch of madness which had helped him to navigate through the troubled waters of his age, always leaving at the margins the demons who haunted him.

Wie haben die repräsentativen Akteure Karl Barth als reformierter Theologe des radikalen Flügels der Bekennenden Kirche, Walter Künneth als lutherische Leitfigur der Jungreformatorischen Bewegung und Emanuel Hirsch als theologischer Kopf der nationalsozialistischen Deutschen Christen den Begriff »Kirchenkampf« verwendet? War ihr »Kirchenkampf« theologisch, kirchenpolitisch oder politisch motiviert? Und nicht zuletzt: Wie ist dieser Kampf heute zu deuten? Was können wir heute daraus für unsere eigene Vergangenheitsbewältigung und Sicht auf Kirche und Politik lernen? Diese und weitere Fragen werden in einer vergleichenden Studie auf einer breiten Quellenbasis wissenschaftlich fundiert und zugleich allgemeinverständlich aufgearbeitet.Karl Barth (Bekennende Kirche), Walter Künneth (Jungreformatorische Bewegung) and Emanuel Hirsch (Deutsche Christen) were certainly influential, distinguished and representative theologians in the so-called "Church Struggle" in Germany in the 1930s. The way they interpreted and talked about this struggle is of great importance for our own understanding of this turbulent era of church history. The main goal of this study is to examine the influence of theological thinking into the interpretation of the "Church-Struggle" to help us to find our own way to deal with this dubious chapter in the history between church and state and complicated Inter-Church Relations.

The education process is inextricably linked to the context of socio-cultural needs, and the concept of the profession and the professional role of the teacher are subject to definitional changes. The complex issues of how the school and the teacher function are examined by the authors. Central themes include: How do the school and the teacher function? What social changes is 21st century society undergoing, both in terms of modernization and globalisation? What does the figure of the teacher look like in the 21st century with reference to the historical outline of the institution of school and the teaching profession? To what extent can teachers be subjective? This book is a reflection on the school institution and the person of the teacher, it has been created to highlight the essence of the pedagogical dimension of education, socio-cultural changes, and pedagogical innovations.

Hertha Firnberg (1909-1994) war die zweite Frau, die in Österreich je einem Ministerium vorstand sowie jene Politikerin, die 1970 ein eigenständiges Wissenschaftsressort aufbaute und dieses 13 Jahre lang, während der gesamten Ära Kreisky, leitete. Maria Wirth rückt in ihrer Studie Hertha Firnberg als zentrale Akteurin in der österreichischen Wissenschaftspolitik in den Mittelpunkt. Sie beleuchtet die Biografie Firnbergs und ihre Tätigkeit als Wissenschaftspolitikerin mit einem Fokus auf die Universitäts- und Forschungspolitik sowie die Situation von Mädchen und Frauen im Bildungssystem und verortet beides im zeitgeschichtlichen Kontext. Der Bildungs-, Universitäts- und Forschungspolitik im 20. Jahrhundert kommt dabei - sowohl was das Leben Firnbergs betrifft als auch über das Biografische hinaus - eine große Beachtung zu. Hertha Firnberg (1909-1994) was the second female minister in Austria and the politician who established an independent Ministry of Science in 1970, which she headed throughout the whole Kreisky era until 1983. Maria Wirth's study focuses on Hertha Firnberg as a central player in Austrian science policy. She illuminates Firnberg's biography and her activities as a science politician with a focus on university and research policy as well as the situation of girls and women in the educational system and situates both in the context of contemporary history. Educational, university, and research policies in the 20th century are given a great deal of attention, both in terms of Firnberg's life and beyond her biography.

In this volume, Lucyna Harmon compares the episodes that constitute the British TV series Agatha Christie's Poirot with David Suchet with their precursor texts, with the aim of establishing most salient changes between both. These changes are grouped by underlying patterns into twenty-three categories. Their list includes activation, anticipation, amelioration, bohemisation, co-option, depopulation, entertainisation, glorification, human softening, importation, marital reduction, melodramatisation, multiplication, pejoration, political correction, political redirection, politicisation, reviving, romanticisation, social adjustment, social alerting, social correction, teaming and thrill intensification. These categories are postulated as adaptation strategies, suitable as a research tool in adaptation studies.

»Imaginarien des Bösen« befasst sich mit der räumlichen Darstellung des Bösen in ausgewählten Werken von José Eustasio Rivera, Jorge Luis Borges und Alejo Carpentier. Die Untersuchung zielt auf eine kulturwissenschaftlich und narratologisch ausgerichtete Kritik der Annahme einer Ästhetik des Bösen. In den modernen Literaturen Lateinamerikas (hier mit Blick auf spanischsprachige Autoren) gibt sich vielmehr eine postkoloniale Figuration des Bösen zu erkennen, die das Böse über Verräumlichungen kolonialer Sujets fiktional ausgestaltet narrativ vermittelt. Die Bezugnahme auf Formen der Sklaverei und ihre literarischen Modellierungen sind das Charakteristikum dieser modernen Literatur, die die Geschichte(n) Lateinamerikas als Verflechtungsgeschichte Amerikas erzählt. "Imaginaries of Evil" deals with the spatial representation of evil in selected works by José Eustasio Rivera, Jorge Luis Borges, and Alejo Carpentier. The study aims at a critique of the assumption of aesthetics of evil, oriented towards cultural studies and narratology. In the modern literature of Latin America (here with a view to Spanish-language authors), a postcolonial figuration of evil can be discerned, which narratively conveys evil through the spatialization of colonial subjects in a fictionalized form. The reference to forms of slavery and their literary modeling are the characteristics of this modern literature, which tells the history(s) of Latin America as a space of entanglements.

In letzter Zeit haben Ferne und Nähe mit den ihnen verwandten semantischen Konzepten (z.B. Weite, Fremdheit, Entfernung, Fernweh, Aus- und Entgrenzung, Andersheit, Heimweh, Nostalgie, Grenze, Beschränkung gegenüber Verbundenheit, Vertrautheit, Nachbarschaft, Verwandtschaft, Sympathie, Empathie) eine zunehmend relevante Bedeutung und Aktualität gewonnen - und dies nicht zuletzt auch aufgrund der durch die Corona-Pandemie weltweit ausgelösten Krise. Im vorliegenden Band wurden einschlägige Beiträge italienischer und deutscher Literatur- und Sprachwissenschaftler:innen mit dem Ziel zusammengestellt, ein neues Kompendium zu den literarischen und sprachlichen Ausdrucksformen der Empathie und Distanz, zu den Ein- und Ausschlussverfahren in Literatur und Sprache, zur Treue oder Verfremdung in Literatur, Übersetzung und Sprachdidaktik sowie zu den Versprachlichungs- und Literarisierungsformen der Nähe und Distanz bereitzustellen.Recently, distance and proximity with their related semantic concepts (e.g. expanse, strangeness, distance, nostalgia, exclusion and inclusion, dissolution of boundaries, otherness, homesickness, longing, border, restriction versus connectedness, familiarity, neighbourhood, kinship, sympathy, empathy) have gained increasing importance and topicality - and this not least because of the crisis triggered by the Corona pandemic worldwide. In the present volume, relevant contributions by Italian and German literary and linguistic scholars have been compiled with the aim of providing a new compendium on the literary and linguistic expressions of empathy and distance, on inclusion and exclusion procedures in literature and language, on fidelity or alienation in literature, translation and language didactics, as well as on the expression of distance and proximity in linguistic and literary forms.

This book illustrates that the idea of a 'national' literature is profoundly problematic. Chapters on boundaries and crisscrossing show how a nation and its writers' works do not exist in isolation from their history. Stressing migration and (inter)cultural dialogue, authors explore how the characters in the texts establish a sense of belonging both within the context of migrations and within the context of Lithuania since its independence. The final series of essays in this book discuss Lithuanian literature abroad, that is, in translation.

Die nationalsozialistische Gesellschaft war geprägt von vielgestaltigen kommunikativen Praktiken des sozialen und auch gewaltvollen Ein- und Ausschlusses. Gleichzeitig bildeten sich durch Widerstandshandlungen vielfältige Gegendiskurse heraus. Der Sammelband nimmt konkrete Beispiele kommunikativer Praktiken während des Nationalsozialismus in den Blick und fragt speziell danach, inwiefern diese themen-, textsorten- und akteursspezifisch gebunden waren.Society during National Socialism was marked and shaped by manifold communicative practices of social inclusion and exclusion. Even acts of resistance manifested themselves in and through communication, forming textual counter-discourses. The present volume analyses concrete examples of communicative practices during National Socialism and pays attention to their relatedness to specific themes, text types and actors using them.

Literarische und visuelle Repräsentationen zum Ersten Weltkrieg zeigen trotz nationaler Prägungen oft Parallelen und übergreifende Themen auf, die es ermöglichen, über Grenzen und Zeiten hinweg Brücken zu schlagen. Die zehn Beiträge fokussieren diesen Krieg, dessen Erinnerungskulturen häufig noch nationalkulturell geprägt sind, aus unterschiedlichen methodischen und Fach-Perspektiven. Durch die Analyse beispielhafter Werke verschiedenster Nationen und Mediengattungen tragen die Beiträge dazu bei, wichtige Themen im Zusammenhang mit literarischen und visuellen Darstellungen des >Great War< in den öffentlichen Diskurs zu rücken. Die Beiträge verdeutlichen, dass Künstler:innen, Filmemacher:innen und Autor:innen sich über Zeiten und Nationen hinweg der großen Tragweite dieses Konfliktes bewusst sind und trotz der Heterogenität ihrer Arbeiten diese auch immer wieder dazu nutzen, wichtige übergreifende Themen zu explizieren, die über nationale Grenzen hinausgehen.The ten contributions to this collection of essays focus on literary and visual representations of the First World War, a war that is still very much remembered in a national context. The authors analyse exemplary representations of sundry media, each part of a different national cultural memory, that stem from diverging time spans. The texts demonstrate that while there are still national differences in remembering this war through literature and visuals, these representations are also full of parallels. Artists, filmmakers and authors are aware of the momentousness of this world war and despite the heterogeneity of their work also use it to address universal themes that help build bridges across borders and times. By focusing on these exemplary representations, the authors of the ten essays contribute to moving important topics into public discourse.

Schon das europäische Mittelalter diskutierte die bis heute umstrittene Frage nach dem relativen Einfluss von geburtlicher Veranlagung versus Einwirkungen der Umwelt auf Verhalten und Fähigkeiten eines Menschen - mit sehr unterschiedlichem Ergebnis. Literatur als textuelle Welt zweiter Ordnung bietet einen Aushandlungsraum, in dem verschiedene Imaginationen von Erziehbarkeit durchgespielt und gewichtet werden können. Diese Möglichkeit Erziehung zu erzählen nutzt die mittelhochdeutsche Dichtung in überraschend hohem Maße. Um verschiedenen Modellen intergenerationeller Weitergabe in den Texten auf die Spur zu kommen, versteht der Band Erziehung als einen elementaren Faktor des Fortbestands menschlicher Kultur und bestimmt sie als ein sowohl transhistorisch wie auch historisch fassbares Phänomen. So können drei personelle Konstellationen identifiziert und analysiert werden, die sich als zentrale literarische Modelle eines Wissenstransfers zwischen den Generationen erweisen.The European Middle Ages already discussed the question of the relative influence of birth disposition versus environmental influences on a person's behaviour and abilities - and came to very different results. Literature as a textual world of second order provides a space for negotiation in which different imaginations of educability can be explored and evaluated. Middle High German poetry uses this possibility of narrating education to a surprisingly high degree. In order to trace different models of intergenerational transfer in the texts, the study regards education as an essential factor in the continuity of human culture and defines it as a phenomenon that can be grasped both transhistorically and historically. In this way, three configurations in the texts are identified and analysed that prove to be key models of knowledge transfer between the generations.

Was braucht es, damit eine Reform gelingt? Die ,Reformatio Sigismundi' (1439) scheint diese Frage nicht zuletzt formal zu stellen, wenn ihr anonym gebliebener Verfasser seine Ideen auf Deutsch diskutiert und mit volkssprachigen Elementen aus Predigt, Prophetie und politischer Publizistik anreichert. Mitten in der auf dem Basler Konzil geführten lateinischen Debatte um eine Reform von Kirche und Reich entsteht so der erste umfassende Reformtext in deutscher Sprache. Unbeantwortet blieb bisher, weshalb der Anonymus die Volkssprache wählt und wie sich der Sprachwechsel auf Argumentation und Intention des Textes auswirkt. Die Studie arbeitet die ,Reformatio Sigismundi' erstmals literaturwissenschaftlich auf und erprobt dabei unterschiedliche philologische Methoden für die Arbeit mit historischen Quellen.What does it take for a reform to succeed? The 'Reformatio Sigismundi' (1439) seems to pose this question regarding its own literary form: its anonymous author presents his ideas in German while enriching them with vernacular elements from sermons, prophecies and political publicity. Thus, in the midst of the Latin debate on a reform of church and empire at the Council of Basel, emerges the very first comprehensive reform text in German. So far, it remains unanswered why the anonymous author chooses the vernacular and how the change of language affects the argumentation and intention of the text. This study is the first to examine the 'Reformatio Sigismundi' from a literary perspective testing different philological methods in working with historical sources.

Wie die Autorin aufzeigt, gelang es dennoch, die Selbständigkeit des Stifts zu erhalten. Mit einer neuen Satzung öffneten sich 1956 schließlich Möglichkeiten der geistlichen Erneuerung.

This is the third and final volume of essays issuing from the Leverhulme International Network 'Renaissance Conflict and Rivalries: Cultural Polemics in Europe, c. 1300-c. 1650'. The overall aim of the network was to examine the various ways in which conflict and rivalries made a positive contribution to cultural production and change during the Renaissance. The present volume, which contains papers delivered at the third colloquium, draws that examination to a close by considering a range of different strategies deployed in the period to manage conflict and rivalries and to bring them to a positive resolution. The papers explore these developments in the context of political, diplomatic, social, institutional, religious, and art history.

Sie wertet umfassende Aktenkonvolute aus und berücksichtigt Elemente der Alltags- und Regionalgeschichte sowie Gedanken zur frühneuzeitlichen Streitkultur. Göttinger Musiker trugen durch ihre Verhaltensweisen zu einem Wandel der Ämter bei - divergierende Kommunikationsstrategien beeinflussten Vokationsprozesse, hierarchische Stellung und öffentliche Reputation. Durch die Universitätsgründung 1734 bedingte Ämterkumulationen und insbesondere die Einsetzung eines neuartigen Collegium musicum beschleunigten den Verfall tradierter Strukturen. Andererseits ermöglichte die Akademie die Genese neuartiger Göttinger Kompositionen, verbunden mit den Namen Schweinitz und Rudorff.The thesis studies the 18th Century musical tradition of Göttingen, a medium-sized town without a court. It analyses voluminous dossiers and takes elements of everyday life and regional belongings as well as thoughts to dispute in early modern period into consideration. Individual behaviour of musicians conducted to manifold transformation of their function. Divergent strategies of communication led to different levels of success on appeals procedures, hierarchical positioning and public reputation. The forfeiture of traditional patterns was accelerated by the foundation of the university and especially by the establishment of a Collegium musicum. On the other hand, the presence of the alma mater faciliated the genesis of a novel type of compositions, connected to names such as Schweinitz and Rudorff.

>Leben in Literatur< - liefern.The study deals with the research papers written by Uwe Johnson during his German studies (1952-1956): What do these elaborations reveal about the early literary and, in part, life-world socialization of the later author of world renown? The surviving student works are examined in terms of the subjects they deal with and the methods used to develop and present them, while also always taking into account the contemporary conditions and the (literary-political) circumstances of the period under consideration that constituted them. On the one hand, these works have their own significance as analytical-essayistic studies of literature, and on the other hand, they provide the first indications of later authorship, of a 'life in literature'.

Für die kritische Auseinandersetzung mit der modernen Geschlechterordnung ist die Debatte über "Kultur" vs. "Natur" zentral. Hier wurde und wird weiterhin argumentiert, das vermeintlich Natürliche sei eigentlich ganz und gar kultürlich und die "natürliche" Geschlechterordnung (ja, die Geschlechtlichkeit selbst) infolgedessen sozial konstruiert. Jede Referenz auf "Natur" ist damit grundsätzlich dem Essenzialismusverdacht unterworfen worden, was auch zu harscher Kritik am Ökofeminismus oder am so genannten "Differenzfeminismus" führte. Für die historische Arbeit entpuppt sich dieses Denken zunehmend als unproduktives Hindernis bzw. als vorschnelle Begrenzung der Forschung - wenn nämlich nicht gefragt werden kann, wovon AkteurInnen eigentlich handeln, wenn sie von "Natur" reden, aber auch, wenn ein Naturbegriff absolut gesetzt wird, der selbst erheblichem historischem Wandel unterworfen war und ist. Im Heft werden solche Fragen an diversen historischen Szenarien (insbesondere der Vormoderne) diskutiert. Damit wird ein wichtiger Beitrag zur derzeitigen Debatte über "Natur", Kultur und Geschlechterordnungen geleistet."Nature" and its presumed opposite, "culture" are central categories when examining the modern order of the sexes. A central argument has long been that what is supposedly "natural" might actually be entirely "cultural" and that the "natural" gender order and even gender itself is, indeed, socially constructed. Any reference to "nature" has thus been fundamentally subjected to a suspicion of essentialism, leading to to harsh feminist critiques of intellectual currents such as "ecofeminism" or "feminism of difference". This binary way of thinking, however, seems to bear in it an unproductive limitation of research. It becomes impossible to ask what historical actors are doing when they use the term "nature" and it makes the concept of nature absolute, rather than showing it to be the subject to considerable historical change. This issue discusses questions of the contingency of nature and its relationship with gender along various historical settings, thus making an important contribution to our current debate on "nature", culture and the gendered order of society.

Tögel unternimmt den Versuch einer Rekonstruktion der Bewusstseinsgestalt des »Historischen Bewusstseins« im Denken Wilhelm Diltheys, die sich in dessen Projekt einer »Philosophie des Lebens« einfügt und sich zugleich seiner scharfen Metaphysikkritik verpflichtet weiß. Der Autor zeigt den Zusammenhang zwischen den methodologischen, materialen und metaphilosophischen Aspekten dieses Projekts und dem »Historischen Bewusstsein« auf. Hierbei wird deutlich, wie dieses seinen ambivalenten Status zwischen Reflexionsfortschritt einerseits und paralysierendem Dekadenzphänomen andererseits in Richtung einer vertieften und konstruktiven Fortsetzung der Aufklärung als Selbstbesinnung überwinden kann.This book tries to show how Wilhelm Dilthey can see in "historical consciousness" a potential to overcome its own sceptical, nihilistic and paralysing consequences. To this end it develops the methodological, systematic and metaphilosophical aspects of Dilthey's "philosophy of life" and gives an account of his scathing critique of metaphysical thought. Embedded in this wider theoretical framework "historical consciousness" can be described as a further step in the pursuit of enlightenment in a self-reflective manner and as a key to more seminal philosophical work.

The book analyses the impact of the instruments of contract law on the status of an heir. The adopted methodology combining the internal-national and external-comparative perspective allows the authors to present "similarities in dissimilarities" within institutions of the German and Polish succession law. The broad analyses of legal doctrine and jurisprudence can serve as a source of knowledge and points of reference for legal practitioners, courts and legislators.

Die (Sub-)Gattung Frauenkrimi gilt als Erfindung der Verlagspolitik und Literaturkritik der 1980er Jahre, im 21. Jahrhundert verschwand sie allerdings (fast völlig) aus den Verlagsprogrammen. Wie jede kriminalliterarische Form durchlief auch der Frauenkrimi viele Entwicklungsstufen, versuchte sich als (weibliches) Gesellschaftssprachrohr und spiegelte die sich verändernden Wirklichkeitsverhältnisse wider, bis er sich im Zuge der Feminismus-Debatten nicht mehr als salonfähig erwies. Wohlgemerkt als Begriff, weniger als kriminalästhetisches Narrativ, denn auch heute werden sowohl in West- und Osteuropa Frauenkrimis verfasst, die man jedoch nicht mehr als solche labelt. Das Ziel des vorliegenden Sammelbandes ist die (Sub-)Gattung anhand von exemplarischen Textanalysen zu konturieren. Women's crime fiction as a (sub) genre is an invention of literary criticism and the publishing industry of the 1980s. In the 21st century it has almost completely disappeared from publishing agendas. Like other forms of detective fiction, women's crime fiction went through many stages of development. It tried to serve as a social mouthpiece for women's issues, it reflected the changing reality, only to finally be recognized as a relic by the feminist debate - as a concept, not as a crime narrative, because today, both in Western and Eastern Europe, women's crime fiction is still written, however, it isn't referred to as "feminine". The purpose of analyzing the examples of women's crime fiction collected in this volume is to describe the aforementioned (sub)genre.
