Chinese proverbs are, in a sense, the DNA of Chinese culture and language. The meanings of many of these proverbs may not be obvious to Westerners. For example when Chinese say the proverb "Dog chases mouse," they mean "Mind your own business"-that is, dogs don''t chase mice; it''s not their job. In the process of truly making a connection with Chinese language and culture, a solid understanding of these proverbs goes a long way.Learning 300 Chinese Proverbs presents a unique book of Chinese proverbs that can be used as a tool for learning spoken and written Mandarin Chinese. This helpful, practical reference is complete with a section on grammar and offers an innovative approach to learning correct pronunciation, useful to both the beginner and the advanced student. Each proverb represents a new and unique lesson in Mandarin Chinese, using Simplified Chinese and the Pinyin transliteration system. Learning 300 Chinese Proverbs is so much more than a Chinese textbook; it also offers an overview of the Chinese civilization and language that goes back thousands of years.
DO NOT TEXTMessage too much. Why? A psychologist at a College in London studied 1,000 adults and concluded that heavy text messaging and emailing caused impaired mental abilities even more than smoking marijuana. The psychologist alleged that the reduction was equivalent to 10 IQ points, and referred to the obsessions as "info mania." YOU CAN set time limits for yourself; turn your phone off during certain times of the day. Give yourself specific times to check and/or reply to your messages, and set alarms for yourself.Once the author determined that she needed to learn as much as possible about text messaging, she spent many hours, days, and weeks researching information about it. She found some wonderful web sites that not only offered great and unusual information about text messaging, but were also just good web sites to visit. When she went into bookstores looking for books that focused on text messaging injuries and accidents, she found none. She and a friend decided that it would be nice if people knew where to find all of the information that she had researched in one place. Help! I Can't Stop Texting: The Hidden Dangers of Text Messaging is the resulting booklet. If the information in this booklet helps to save the life of just one person, then the mission of this booklet will be complete.
