This is a heart warming story about friendship and determination. When Rabbit Stew Number Two is unexpectedly absent from school, his friends, Chicken Noodle, Doggy Biscuit and Horsey Shoe, go on a relentless search to find out why, After asking all their friends in the wood and on the farm, without success, they go persistently, one by one to Rabbit's family in hopes of getting the answer. They ask ten rabbits but no one has any idea where Rabbit Stew Number Two is, leaving them disappointed and worried about their friend. Finally, their search leads them to Mother Rabbit, who lovingly reassures Chicken Noodle, Doggy Biscuit and Horsey Shoe that Rabbit Stew Number Two is not missing. She tells the three friends that Rabbit is fine, and that he is home in bed getting over the flu. When the four friends are reunited once again, the true meaning of friendship will warm your heart and put a beautiful smile on your child's face.
When Turtles Whisper presents a compilation of poems based upon Cecelia Gartrell Evans's life experiences, recounting the moments that are most memorable to her. Whether explaining how the whispers of turtles helped her to handle disappointments as a child, chronicling past hurts and loves, or offering advice to parents, her poetry evokes emotions to which everyone can relate. Her musings are presented in verse; some are serious, while others are whimsical, but all relate her innermost feelings. There is something for everyone, young and old, in this charming collection.TURTLE VISITSI'd love to have you visitThat is if you won't mindNever coming inside my house; For there is only room for one.We can walk and talkAs we spend days together,Admire the sights andEat out in the open. Then in privacy keep our nightsPondering what happened that day,For you will sleep in your houseAnd I will sleep in mine.'Cause in a turtle's home,Like I said beforeThere is only enough room, For One!
The stories were written for intelligent middle school children, who have a sense of sophisticated humor and who like adventure. There are elements of surprise and adventure with much scientific materials, some of which is true and some not true. The reader should be motivated to find out for themselves. For example, (1) there was certainly a massive eruption in Krakatoa (the survival of the Viven beetle is entirely fictitious) and (2) there is a Yucca plant pollinated by a moth.
