Leading With Culture is a groundbreaking book that delves into the transformative power of culture-focused leadership in the modern workplace. Drawing inspiration from Maslow's hierarchy of needs, reimagined for the 21st-century post-pandemic landscape, this book presents original research that unravels the changing employee needs and the critical role of culture in meeting those needs. It offers a comprehensive toolkit for leaders and managers at all levels, empowering them to understand, articulate, and effectively lead culture within their organizations. With a strong focus on the leader as a culture builder, the book addresses the challenges faced by leaders in nurturing a people-centric environment and fostering employee engagement. Moreover, it introduces a novel framework for comprehending employee needs and measuring culture from an employee-experience perspective, providing practical guidance for creating thriving, resilient workplaces in the new world of work.

For almost 200 years, wind bands and wind band musicians were the pre-eminent form of large instrumental ensemble performance practice in Canada. From the earliest documented evidence of a "band of music" in 1770 Halifax to the post-World War II explosion of curricular school band programs across the country, bands were a genuine expression of popular musical culture. They attracted the best musicians in the villages, towns and cities they called home and ranged in ability from ensembles barely beyond the beginner stage to professional organizations, like the Anglo-Canadian Leather Company Band, that were internationally renowned.More importantly, those that performed in and led these groups also served as our first music infrastructure. They became music teachers, instrument importers, sheet music distributors and concert promoters. It was through their efforts that the foundations were laid for our present-day symphony orchestras, operatic societies, conservatories and music schools. Some of these musical pioneers were also composers. They created a small body of wind-band literature, often written for their own ensembles, that reflected the highest compositional standards of their time. The present volume, richly illustrated with historical photographs and musical examples, is a long-overdue attempt to document the story of Canada's wind bands and the Canadian music they played.

A man by the name of Sheldon Penner has a closet heaped high with skeletons that he's kept under lock and key for many years. Shame, would be a good word to describe how he feels now. It's much too late to change course, the damage has been done. His wife once told the Salt Lake City police in a letter that Sheldon was a smart and intelligent man, and any length of jail time would not alter his beliefs on fairness and true justice. Back in the day, Sheldon was a handsome man that was born and raised in Canada, but received his education from Walla Walla University. He married an American lady while still in college, and it was soon thereafter misfortune abounded. This woman that shares three sons with Sheldon hastily snatches the boys away with the courts consent. Then there was another lady that fed an insurance company lies until Sheldon's quiet forgiving attitude transformed into a more callas and defiant individual. Turning the other cheek was no more an option, it stung too much to have it exposed for everyone to slap. Sheldon believes in loyalty, honesty, truthfulness and kindness, but at times when these attributes don't divulge themselves, he snaps like a dry branch instead of being nimble like a yoga instructor. These retaliations caused much confusion and regret in his life. How did Sheldon respond to all the adversity he faced, that is the question? Are you interested in finding out?Sheldon Penner

When Love Is Countercultural This workbook will change how you view Jesus's engagement with marginalized people. ¿ Know this: before Jesus came, all Gentiles were marginalized. Jesus viewed marginalized people as a target for love, compassion, and transformation. ¿ To reveal the heart of the Father, Jesus demonstrated behavior patterns that posed a significant threat to cultural norms. Winning hearts requires building meaningful relationships with those who may have the desire for this connection. Jesus often engaged with people on a personal level, addressing their individual needs and concerns. Through authentic interactions, Christians can create genuine connections with individuals who feel marginalized. Creating this safe space allows individuals to feel comfortable sharing their ideas and beliefs that may be dissimilar from ours without the fear of being admonished or condemned. The principles enumerated in this workbook can apply to all individuals wanting to reach out to other ethnic, socially, and generationally differentiated groups. Rather than imposing beliefs, a heart-centered approach involves active listening and seeking to understand the perspectives, doubts, and questions of others. This builds trust and eventually allows for more effective communication of the Gospel message that will hopefully eventually lead to a heart change through the transforming work of the Holy Spirit.
