I'm sharing my story to affirm with you that Depression is Real. I hope that reading about my long journey working through depression and anxiety will help you or a loved one know that you can get over depression. Depression is not just in your head. It's not something you can just shake from your head and suddenly be content. Depression (I wish we could come up with a better name) is a shutdown of your whole system. It's like you are locked in a deep hole and can't escape. You try climbing out by using antidepressants or going to counselling. You try to dig a hole through the wall by trying holistic approaches. Sometimes you become so exhausted because of all the ways you are trying to climb out of the hole. Life is passing you by and you are stuck. You start to feel hopeless. You are tired of being tired, and life does not matter as much. You don't want to be a burden, so life seems better off without you. I am not a doctor, a counsellor or any professional in the mental health field. I am a mother, wife, retired teacher (now), friend, sister, and daughter, a participant, fighter and survivor of depression. While this book doesn't promise to heal you from your mental illness, I want to do my best to share what I've learned and hopefully inspire you to keep going. Don't give up, and don't give up hope, because you will get better. And it's with this hope that I've grown in myself that I share the rest of my experience.

Momo wants to catch the lunker that gave Lunker Lake its name. Momo hooks what feels like a huge fish. The fish is so big that Momo cannot reel it in. As Momo struggles with the fish, a storm moves in and it begins to get dark. Will Momo catch the big fish? Is it the lunker? How do Momo and her dad find their way to shore and back home in the dark? Is Brownie the hero? What lesson does Momo learn on Lunker Lake? It is an adventure that Momo will never forget!

If they were not there at the time, the casual observer, would be guided by the mundane news reports that reached their countries in the 1970's. To them, the war in Rhodesia was merely just another of the many civil wars in Africa. On the surface, some may have seen it for what it was: a fight between Communism and Christianity, a war between East and West. However, as rational as these analogies sound, they ignore the strong undercurrent of mythology so prevalent in Central Africa. Rudi Stevens and Steadfast Watadzaushe were born under the same sun. Both sons of Africa. Yet the beliefs that attended their cradles were worlds apart, Their opposites separated and, as they do, their opposites attracted. Mythology determined their path and, wittingly for one and unwittingly for the other, sealed their mortal destiny.

In 1970 they are required to register for National Service and face the dreaded 'ballot of death'.Later, Phillip assumes the responsibility for helping to run Trafalgar Downs Station while Alex studies archaeology and anthropology at university. In a world where our phones can be used for anything, from checking the weather to finding a drug store, we have found ourselves no longer able to live without our device. It is not more than centimetres, even millimetres, from us at all times. It is our connection to the world, our "live" wire, our go-to for immediate info. Our anxiety goes through the roof if we can't find it!It's our crutch, and it's our addiction.Texting and messaging have become the new way to communicate, and although there are inherent advantages to relaying information this way, it has eliminated the need to have any in-person, face-to-face, physically present human interaction. As older adults, most of us have had the advantage of growing up without technology, or little of it. We had to develop our social skills and have actual physical interaction with others because we couldn't just text someone to have a conversation. Today, texting is the only way most of our youth are communicating, and social anxiety is through the roof! Here we are on a planet of over 8 billion humans and our human-to-human connection is dissolving. So how did we get here? Txting to Talking aims to look at the evolution of our addiction to our devices and the good, bad, and ugly of it all. With relevant research, interviews from individuals around the world from all walks of life, and end-of-chapter questions and "things to ponder," you'll be able to gain an insight as to your own device addiction and be able to help others.
