This book reviews dominant crisis communication theories, which according to many scholars are either too narrow or broad for practical application to all types of reputational crises. Freeman, as the progenitor of modern stakeholder theory, has spent much time since the original publication trying to remove the primary focus from companies to that of achieving broader positive outcomes for organisations, populations, and the operating environment. This book embraces the ethos of Freeman¿s revisions and applies it to crisis communication through placing the reputational crisis at the centre of a stakeholder map, where other literature places the company at the centre of the stakeholder map. This leaves the company experiencing the crisis situated with all other crisis stakeholders to develop solutions to the source of conflict, and as a result, the reputational crisis.Removing the corporation from the centre allows for other stakeholders such as interest groups, politicians, media, and afflicted stakeholders, to legitimately work towards solving the crisis. This book uses a typology of apologia and builds upon it to create a means that allows corporate managers to genuinely apologise to crisis victims, without necessarily exposing the corporation to financial liability claims. The apologia construct developed herein is equally useful to CEO¿s as it is in a domestic situation.Consistent throughout this book is the philosophy that all reputational crises can be either solved, or significantly reduced in terms of impact. This book describes the basic concepts and principles of classical mechanics in the intermediate level. Given the perspective that different mechanical problems require an appropriate approach drawn from various methods or principles, a textbook discussing multiple methods or principles in mechanics is highly desirable. Additionally, a good textbook should include historical context on the motivation and the development of the methods or principles, allowing students to gain insights that may help them discover new theories. However, after many years of teaching Dynamics in the graduate school, the authors were unable to find a suitable intermediate-level textbook on classical mechanics, which motivated them to begin writing this book. For the aforementioned reasons, this book includes the descriptions of various methods or principles in mechanics, such as the Newton-Euler Principle, the d'Alembert Principle, Lagrangian methods, Gauss's Principle of Least Constraint, the Gibbs-Appell equation, Jourdain's equation, the Principle of Virtual Power, the Appell-Kane method, the Hamilton Principle, and the Hamiltonian mechanics, among others. Moreover, many historical remarks on the motivation and the development of the methods or principles are given in this book, as well as numerous applications. The authors also believe that in studying the motion of a material body, different models may be used depending on the application. If the position of the body is of interest, a particle model may be chosen. If the orientation or attitude of the body is under consideration, a rigid body model should be adopted. If deformation is a concern, a model of deformable body should be applied. Consequently, a book in mechanics for engineers should encompass a variety of models of the body, ranging from particles to continua such as solids or fluids. This book also meets that need.

Highly informalized cities of the global South are often portrayed as chaotic and out of control - this book reveals a spatial logic of informal urbanism that is central to the economic life and livelihoods of such cities. 'Inventraset' is a concept that shows how informal street vending, transport and settlement are fundamentally integrated with each other and the more formal city. Street vending and transport provide crucial forms of employment and mobility, while informal settlement is the key source of affordable and adaptable housing. Informal urbanism is not ideal but it is the way such cities work; it is often hidden or camouflaged within the ideal of a clean, green and modern city to which middle-classes and elites aspire. This book provides the first complete English translation of Giulio Aleni's Wanwu Zhenyuan ¿¿¿¿ ('The True Source of the Myriad Things'). Aleni is one of the most important Jesuit missionaries to China, as is evidenced by the fact that he was reverentially called already during his lifetime 'Confucius from the West'. Aleni's work, first published in 1628, offers precious insight into the ways in which he tried to communicate Western philosophical notions to Confucian literati, arguing that only God can be the ultimate source of the world. In our introduction, we situate this work within Aleni's life and analyze the argument of the text. We discuss the Scholastic framework that Aleni uses in his attempt to prove God's existence, as well as his arguments against competing positions from native Chinese philosophical traditions, particularly Neo-Confucianism. We also emphasize the importance that Aleni gives to reason as the best possible means of intercultural communication. Moreover, we have provided numerous annotations to the translation that identify references, provide historical and philosophical contextualization, and otherwise aid in the appreciation and elucidation of the work. The rotation of the Sun is a basic parameter which constrains the boundary conditions for the model of the MHD-dynamo mechanisms that generates solar activity. The Sun is a slowly rotating star with a convection zone below the surface which is the site of the solar dynamo. The solar rotation depends on the latitude, depth/height and time, i.e., the Sun rotates differentially. In the book several aspects of the solar rotation are covered. Only in the case of the Sun we can directly observe details in its atmosphere and so measure the rotation velocity using various tracers, which is one of the mostly used methods for rotation determination. So, the Sun is a prototype for studying other stars. Different techniques that enable to determine solar rotation (e.g., tracer method, spectroscopic method, helioseismology) are presented and their results are compared and interpreted.In the current literature there is no book exclusively about solar rotation published in the last several decades. The book is intended for astrophysicists, both professionals as well as students and people interested in science in general. The reader would strongly benefit from the comprehensive description of several topics related to the solar rotation.The authors are highly experienced in teaching astrophysics both to astrophysicists, solar physicists as well as to the public. "Antibiotics and their mechanisms of action" provides a deep and lucid understanding of the mechanisms of action of various antibiotics. The experiments followed to decipher the mechanisms have been explained in great depth, which is a novelty in this textbook. Most undergraduate textbooks on antibiotics place emphasis on their use from the clinician's perspective. Taking penicillin as an example, typical textbooks discuss its discovery, penicillin's ß-lactam derivatives, routes of administration, the diseases and pathogens treated with ß-lactam antibiotics, side effects, and finally the mechanisms of resistance that have evolved against penicillin. No description of how its mechanism of action was deciphered is ever provided. This textbook describes how simple experiments using protoplasts, covalent affinity chromatography, SYPRO Orange binding assays, and X-ray crystallography have all been used to elucidate the mechanism of action of penicillin. Like this, the complicated mechanisms of action of different antibiotics have been presented in simple terms with the help of original illustrations. Chapters 8-10 cover the mechanisms of action of anti-ribosomal antibiotics (tetracycline, streptomycin, chloramphenicol). Elucidating the mechanisms of action for these antibiotics requires complex experiments such as ex vivo transcription via a cell-free ribosomal reaction mixture, photolabelling experiments, and sucrose density gradient centrifugation of radiolabelled translation reactants and products. These experiments are conveyed to the reader in the simplest possible language and with easily understandable, appealing illustrations. Finally, the reader is challenged at the end of every chapter with original questions, testing whether hecan apply the concepts he learned in the preceding chapter to research-level problems. This book is written primarily for undergraduate students in microbiology or biotechnology courses to help them develop a simplistic yet comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms underlying antibiotics action. It is believed that this book will prepare the students for PhD level research.
